Any one ever have their ear drum rupture?

I have had a double ear infection, and was on a z-pack. It cleared up the left ear like it should have but the right is not any better. So today I went to the doctors and she told me that my ear was in the process of rupturing and there is not nothing we can do. She put me on a new antibiotic and gave me numbing drops. I am just having a problem with what she referred the pain of it happening, to getting shot in the side of the head. Does it really fell that way and how long did the pain last for? I am so sick of being sick I don't know how much pain I will be able to take. Ok the positive side she said that I will be able to hear again and the pressure i'm feeling will go away when it is over. Thanks Ladies.

Re: Any one ever have their ear drum rupture?

  • Maddie had hers rupture and didn't even cry.  Her doctor said that the rupturing will actually be relief because the pressure will be released and she will feel better.  Good luck.  Let us know what happens.  I HATE it when doctors try to scare people.
  • That makes me. Feel better, Landen has had some nasty one were we were told it might happen but the med have always worked. I like me DR. And saying thing like that is not like her.
  • Ummm...I had an ear infection/rupture last winter and it was one of the most painful things I have ever gone though...and I gave birth with no meds! HA! Hope you feel better soon!
  • It happened to me last winter....hurts like hell but for me the pain was fleeting, lasted 30-45 seconds tops I think.  I didn't really even put 2 and 2 together what happened until cleaning my ears the next morning after a shower and there was some blood.

This. It was more of a shock and then the relief of not having the pressure.

    Hope you feel better soon!
