Energy Star Dishwasher Recs

We're looking for a new dishwasher since our 12 year old non-ES one is crapping out.  I've been searching and found some good contenders, but I'm afraid that some of these models that only use a couple of gallons of water per cycle might not was the dishes completely.  Anyone have a good rec?

Re: Energy Star Dishwasher Recs

  • I think the majority if not all dishwasher now are energy star rated, I think it more about the features you want. For instance we have an open floor plan so it has to be quiet. We also want steam as that helps with stuck on food ( this is good for eggs and peanut butter) and the control panel on the front instead of hidden.
  • We love our Bosch. I can't remember the model. It's not the Ascenta. I think ours is one up from that (we got a good deal so it was the same price range). I don't remember how much water it uses, but it's not a lot and it still cleans very well. I have a low tolerance for dishwashers that don't clean or require a lot of pre-cleaning. This one, thankfully, requires neither. I'm very happy with it.

  • Thanks for the feedback.  I have been looking at Bosch and read a lot of mixed reviews, so it's good to hear another positive one. :-)

  • We have a Bosch.  It came with our house when we bought it.  I have enough complaints about it to make me wonder why this brand is generally so well-rated.  We definitely have to pre-rinse our dishes in order for them to come out clean.  :(

Ours doesn't have an adjustable drying setting.  I prefer dishwashers that allow you to override the high heat drying cycle to save energy.

Pay attention to the layout of the loading racks.  There is no great method for loading our bowls and wine glasses into our dishwasher.  Since it's always best to run full loads from an EF standpoint, I'm constantly repositioning dishes in my efforts to use the dishwasher efficiently.

Our dishwasher is quiet, which is a deciding factor for a lot of people.  Or at least it was, until our city decided to increase the water pressure and we had to add a noisy regulator.

  • Ours is a Maytag. I don't remember what the rating was, but it was one of the lowest 'cost per year' we were looking at in our price range. We are actually still waiting on our rebate (only $25) b/c our state has no money right now, but maybe look into that as you are shopping too.
