I got invited to present a paper (that I still am trying to finish!) at a conference in two weeks. The conference is in Washington DC & since we can't afford to have all three of us go, nor do I want to do another 6 hour plane flight with Felix again anytime soon, I would have to go by myself.
Did any of you travel & leave baby at home while they were still little? I am sure Ryan could handle it for two days by himself, but I just have reservations about leaving.
Re: Travel w/o baby?
I may be facing the same question when V is 4 months old, and for the same reason. I hate the thought of leaving for a few days and having to deal with how to build up a stash, pump while I'm gone, send milk home, etc. I'd prefer to have my husband and the baby come with me, but I'm not sure it'll make sense economically and my husband would be miserable in Chicago with an infant for 3 days. Then again...it may be even more to FedEx milk every day. Like you said, my husband would be fine with V for a few days, but it breaks my heart to think about.
I have no words of encouragement, but I do understand how you feel.
I went alone to a friend's wedding in San Diego when DD was 3.5 months. She stayed with the ILs on Thurs/Fri and DH picked her up and cared for her on Sat/Sun. I'm so glad I went. Of course I missed Helen (I took a few photos of her with me, both to look at myself and to show off to anyone who would stand still for 30 seconds) but I never regretted my choice to go on the trip. I had an awesome time at the wedding; a long weekend feeling like an independent adult again was just what I needed. Uninterrupted sleep at night didn't hurt, either!
I know a lot of women wouldn't dream of leaving their LO for a few days at so young an age. But don't think you're a bad mom if you don't have any guilt over it. Everyone parents differently. For me, a little separation from my child every now and then is essential to my mental health.
