Monday, Monday

I have been shoveling my driveway as best I can.  I haven't done the entire driveway yet, but I have done sections here and there.

I've been asking my lazy-a H to shovel.  He did for a little bit on Saturday, but that was it.  He hardly touched the driveway.

I kept telling him he needed to do it or he was going to get stuck.  He didn't think he would though.

So this morning, a little before 4 am, he wakes me up and asks for help getting him unstuck.

Angry

And then on the way to work all I hear is talk about this gigantic storm we are getting soon.

We are hiring someone to plow the driveway.  I'm not dealing with this crap snow any more.

Smile

    Good for you!

Yeah, it sounds like we're going to get quite a storm on Wednesday.

Yeah!  I checked the 5 day forecast for my zip code and it looks like it's supposed to start snowing around 2 today and not stop until Thursday.  We already have about 2 feet of snow at my house.  No idea where this new snow is going to go.  :)

  • Ugh.  I'm coordinating a meeting for Tuesday, and this snow storm is making all kinds of problems.  We have a bunch of people driving to and from the meeting from all over the midwest.  We may be starting the meeting tomorrow at 7:30 am tomorrow to get everyone out by 1:00 pm so they can try and beat the storm.

  • My husband is being weird.

A week or so ago, he told me that we should go to Italy this fall.  I scoffed at him.  But then he brought it up again on Friday.  Then we went to Schuler's on Saturday and I found him flipping through an Italy guidebook.  Hmm

Then, yesterday he said that we should move to Traverse City.  I off-handedly mentioned this six months ago and he (rightfully) blew me off.  But yesterday he said we should look for jobs and a house in TC.  Huh?

And, to test this newly open-minded husband of mine, I brought up a dog that is on fliers posted around my office by someone trying to find her a home (she fosters dogs).  He seemed somewhat open to the suggestion, although later said that would be a bigger decision than moving to TC.  Hmm

    I'm so confused!

I asked him if he's having a mid-life crisis and is going to want a new wife next.  He said no, he's just decided to start living life to the fullest more.  Weird....

(FWIW, I am not planning to go to Italy, move to TC, or get a dog.  I'm thinking this is a phase that's going to pass.  The dark, cold winter does weird things to people, man!)

That sounds like a good idea.  I don't think it's supposed to start snowing in GR until later in the day tomorrow.

I must be going through a mid-life crisis 24/7.  Stick out tongue

I always have big dreams and big ideas!  Hehe.  I'm sure my H rolls his eyes at me most of the time, but it's always fun when he humors me and goes along with one of my ideas every once in a while.  Smile

That's the thing!  You're not having a mid-life crisis if you always have big dreams/ideas.  I do too!

It's just weird because he's always so conservative, anti-risk, and realistic.  So this is a big change for him.

Good point.  I would be a little freaked out if my H started acting like that too.  I wonder if I would like it.....hmmm....  Weird.

  • Molly, good call on the plowing service. I would be so annoyed in your situation. Kasa, B is behaving very strangely. I think you should take a little advantage of his mood and at least book a trip to Italy (that seems to have the fewest long term ramifications of the things you've discussed). Wop, good luck planning your meeting. I have to drive to the East Side and back today, so I hope the snow holds off until tomorrow.
  • Way to go on the shoveling.  DH and I did that for one season on our house and the next summer, we bought a snow blower.  Best investment EVER :) but we have a city lot.  I can't imagine doing a gigantic driveway.

I'm praying for a snow day on Wednesday.  If my agency is open but the roads are bad, my butt is staying home!  I have an hour commute on a good day so on bad days, it is not fun.

We looked at snowblowers yesterday, and will definitely be purchasing one.  But not till the spring when they hopefully go on clearance.  Smile

  • Wohoo my car is paid off today :)

  • Oooh, I would've been ticked, D&M about being woken up!  I would've pretended to be sleeping.  Hehe, not really, but I would've been mad!  Do you guys have a giant driveway at your new house? I can't remember.  Paying to have it cleared every year  might be the way to go if it's huge.  Unless you can snow blow the entire thing when you get one.

Kasa, whatever happened to Greece?!  You should ask your H about going to Greece, then use Italy as a fallback.  hehe.

Snow storm = major boo from me.  I just hope I don't get caught it in it tomorrow, and that the roads are clear when I go into work on thursday.

  • I have to admit, I'm really geeked about this supposed snow storm we might get. I've been dying for a snow day, and this looks like it might just be the answer to those hopes. I thought tomorrow was supposed to remain relatively not too snowy and the bulk would hit over night, but maybe I'll have to go stalk weather.gov again.

Kasa-That is a lot out of the blue! I agree with Diana-take advantage of the Italy trip, that would be amazing. It'll be interesting to see if the trend continues or if he's just in a winter funk.

Des-I would definitely hire someone to plow you guys out, especially with 2 feet of snow already there. Not sure the length of your driveway, but it seems like it would be totally worth it.

Charity-Congrats on paying off your car, it's such a great feeling when something gets paid off.

That was one of my ideas for our 2010 vacation.  It was vetoed, along with the rest of the European continent.  Stick out tongue

I hear you on your frustration!  Our driveway has to be plowed and it is a huge project.  Luckily FIL who lives next door is retired and doesn't mind doing it (although I still feel guilty about that).  Prior to him retiring, it wouldn't get plowed as often and I'd literally get stuck in the middle of the driveway, have to get myself and the kids out and walk up a slippery hill.  No matter how much I said it needed to be done, offering to do it myself, shoveling the bad parts myself the point never got across that it needs to be plowed on a regular basis.  Even my in-laws who used our car got stuck so it's not my driving skills.  Literally, every day I leave or come home, I'm sending a prayer hoping I make it up the damn driveway.  And then I'm sliding all over the place because you have to go fast in order to build the momentum to get up the hill.  So irritating.  I hate winter!

Ummm yeah you have every right to be irritated!  Your driveway is at least 3 times the size of mine.

Is your SUV 4WD or AWD?  Mine is AWD and I get stuck in my driveway.  I hate winter also!!!

It's emabarrassingly (given the situation) small.  I just have a lazy H.  Based on how he acted this morning and all through the day today, I'm guessing he learned his lesson.

Next winter should be better once we have the snowblower.  Until then, we're hiring someone to plow.

Side note.  H gets frustrated that we're having trouble getting his car unstuck this morning, so he goes inside, grabs the keys to my car, and starts backing down the driveway.  I'm think 'WTH is this idiot doing with my car?!?'  I knock on the window and tell him to put my car back in the garage.  He said he was going to try to push his car out using mine.  Like bumper to bumper contact.  I don't think he was thinking straight.  So he listens to me, and tried to drive my car back in the garage.  Our driveway has a slight incline.  He got my car stuck on the ice.  Ha.  It was such a mess!

Seriously though, if you guys can afford a trip to Italy, I say you strike while the iron of opportunity is hot! If you have plane tickets purchased, he can't decide to live life to the emptiest a month from now.

Yes Kasa your post cracked me up!

Just wnated to say hello. I've been swamped at work lately and don't have much time at home with the girls.

We had our volunteer event at work last week and it was a success! We had a 'white elephant drawing' when the volunteers arrived. I had a hodge podge of logo items we have given away over the past couple of years. I also had some stuff from the gift shop that I haven't been able to sell. Stick out tongue  Each person received two blank tags that they could put their name on it and put it in the bowl next to the item they would like to win. This way people weren't winning crap they didn't want.

For dinner we had a 'walking mashed potato' bar - we had our large stem water glasses that people could put the potatoes in and the topping of their choices. It was supposed to be a mash-a-tini" bar but we didn't have martini glasses.

And we also had a made-to-order pasta station.  The volunteers loved the food and thought it was really unique.

Yay, for a successful event!  Sounds like it went really well.  And the food sounds like it was wonderful!

And now I feel like eating mashed potatoes...

  • MB - that seems like a huge success.  The food sounds great.

One of the volunteers was teasing me about that, but he was in heaven too so he wasn't complaining. It was supposed to be off-set by various appetizars like veggies and other stuff, but our Chef didn't think about that until the last minute and just did three kinds of salsa with chips and pita (more carbs)

  • Kasa, I think you mentioned that B might be having some winter blues stuff going on.  I always come up with sweeping change ideas during the winter.  It kind of gets me though.  I wonder if that's what's happening with him.

I think it's your duty as your partner to help him through this cruel, cruel season, and take him up on Italy.  It's either that or taking him to the tanning bed. ;)

PS - do it!  If not Hawaii, why not Italy?

Happens to me every year too.  February is always the worst, followed closely by March.

May the next 8.5 weeks fly by!
