I never win anything, this is awesome. I won a book from Goodreads. I entered to win a ton of books, but I didn't think I would actually win one!
Meanwhile, I've decided that I've been read so much that I needed to a new blog for all things reading related. Check it out if you want! http://pandareads.blogspot.com

ohh yay for winning something!
yess new blog! i really need to start reading more...
I did read Eat, Pray, Love. It took me a few months to get through it and I don't think I ever reviewed it for my blog. I hated the book. I kept putting it down for weeks at a time because I just didn't want to read it, but me being me I had to finish it just to say I read it.
It's broken up into three sections. I thought the first section, Italy, was very good. I loved reading about the food she ate and the people she met there. The second section killed me. I didn't give a crap about her problems meditating. The third section was a little better, but not great like the first section. By the time I was done reading it I was just glad the whole thing was over forever.

Hahaha, awesome. Yeah, I read it a bit ago - I thought her writing style was interesting to read, but I couldn't help thinking, "rich people problems" the whole time. Oh, you decided you didn't want to be married anymore? So you're just taking, like, a YEAR off to travel? Um...yeah, I don't have any sympathy for you. Must be nice to be able to afford to do that.
In short, I wasn't a fan either. Which means I'll probably like a lot of what you recommend! Hooray!

I'm glad I had the same thoughts. Everyone raved about this book and I couldn't help but be super cynical. I thought maybe I missed the deeper spiritual meaning behind it, but hearing your guys thoughts makes me feel better. I soooo look forward to reading your blog because I have no time to read for pleasure anymore. I'm currently in the middle of 'Design for Ecological Democracy'. Yeah, it's good, but it's no pleasure read.
ITA. I couldn't sympathize with her at all. Unfortunately, marriages break up all the time, I don't see why she thought she deserved special treatment. I never understood the whole "Finding yourself" thing anyway. IMO, you are who you are. What is there to find? Maybe when I'm middle aged I'll understand better.
I'm reading Outlander right now. The ladies on the Book Club board are so into this series, but I can't get into it. It's over 700 pages and I'm like, I have to just keep plowing along or this will become like Eat Pray Love and I don't want to spend a year with this book! I think I'm around page 150 right now. I'm generally not a fan of novels with time travel or rape. Damn my reading OCD - I have to finish it!
