Coming from pgh-Wild Dunes?
Hi everyone,
My family is thinking about booking a vacation in Wild Dunes, SC. We do not know when we will be coming bc that depends on the what the weather is like at different times during the summer. Is it too hot and humid? What about May? We could do the beginning of May-is that a better time, is it less busy with kids still being in school at that time? We are coming from Pittsburgh and don't know anything about this area (clearly) Thank you in advance for any help!
Re: Coming from pgh-Wild Dunes?
Summer in Charleston can be unbearable, and I'm an SC native. The humidity hovers around 100% and it can be crushing with the heat well over 100 plus the heat index. If you aren't accustommed to wet, sticky heat, I strongly advise you to visit in the spring.
From a tourist perspective, it's not as busy in May, but there are still a lot of people in the city and on the beaches (college kids, high schoolers on First Week, Memorial Day, etc). Rates also start going up around that time of the year.
Late April would probably be a good time for you. The water might not be warm enough to get in, but there are certainly days where it's warm enough to lay out, although it can be dicey.
Hi WhitneyAnne, My parents have a home in Wild Dunes, so I consider myself to be an expert :-). Summers are hot and can be humid. The second half of July and the month of August are probably the hottest, but April, May and June are great times to come. Easter is at the end of April this year, and the resort always puts on a big brunch and Easter Egg Hunt and has lots of actvities. Wild Dunes is a hot spot during Spring Break and Easter for families with young children and pre-teens. It's almost as busy as it is during summer. Like other person who commented mentioned, the ocean might be too cold to swim in, but Wild Dunes has heated pools. If you were looking to come at a less crowded time, May might be better. Although, weekends will be pretty busy with Mother's Day and College of Charleston's graduation. Memorial day kicks off the Summer Season. Either way you decide to go, it's a good thing you're planning now! Hope this helps!
Hi! We live on Isle of Palms (Where Wild Dunes is located) and the weather is starting to be beautiful! I would definitely recommend coming in May. I can almost guarantee that it will be warm/bathing suit weather! If you come in the summer, it could definitely be uncomfortably Hot.
You will LOVE it. We are originally from Ohio, and we can't get enough of Charleston and the beach.
