Wording for Shower Invite Insert (Recipe Request Related)

I'm hosing a shower for my brother and FSIL.  They really like to cook and we would like to have the guests bring their favorite recipe to share.  After the shower we are going to put together a blurb/mypublisher book with pictures of the attendees and their respective recipe to give to the couple.

How would you word the insert card?  I'm having a complete mental block.

Re: Wording for Shower Invite Insert (Recipe Request Related)

  • I'm not sure if I'm really going to answer your question but....for my SIL shower we sent along a recipe card with the invite and just wrote in the invite "Help fill the brides recipe box by sharing your favourite recipe on the card provided"  then we just gave her a recipe box to go with it...if you want to do the book though that works too, I wouldn't bother writing that in the invite though, just write "help fill the brides recipe book by sharing your favorite recipes on the card provided"
  • I was going to suggest sending the recipe card as well

but some sort of brainstorm from me would go "wether it's a favorite you came up with yourself or one that was passed down to you, please take the time to share a recipe with the bride"

or "spicing up the bedroom is up to them, but spicing up the kitchen is up to us, please share your favorite recipe with the new Mr. and Mrs"

  • great suggestions, thanks.  I don't think we're going to send actual recipe cards (don't you find them super hard to fit everything in???), but thanks for clearing my mental block with the wording.

for ours they used both sides..but yeah little hard if you only want them using one side.

  • Wouldn't it be great if the guests could email you the recipe before the shower, so you didn't have to re-type?  Then maybe the recipe book could be done and presented at the shower.  Oh, although then the pictures wouldn't be in it, and that's the cutest part.  Unless people could also email you fun pictures of themselves with the bride-to-be...  Good luck with the wording for that - I have no clue!
  • I think this is a great idea, and the above suggestions are really good.  My cousins did something similar with family recipes when DH and I got married.  At my shower, I received a large box full of all the baking supplies a girl could ask for.  Inside was also a photo album with pics of my cousins and I scattered among family recipes.  Each had a special note attached that said things like, "Grandpa K's favorite cookies' or "Great Grandma K was famous for this recipe."  Maybe you can also ask your guests to add a comment like that with their recipes as well?  Like "This recipe was my Aunt Kate's famous chili" or "This recipe came out of my first kitchen disaster, but now everyone loves it."

  • At SIL shower I mailed the recipe cards with the invite and it worked out fine- no space issues with the cards.  She loved it and got lots of great recipes.
