5 & 3 year old drinking milk from a sippy cup

Any advice on how to get my 2 little ones to drink milk from a regular cup?

Re: 5 & 3 year old drinking milk from a sippy cup

  • Just take away the sippy cups. I used to work in a daycare and I had a no-sippy cup policy in my class of 2 year olds. There were always a few spills with regular cups, but the constant practice meant they picked it up much faster.

  • I second the just take it away from them, sure there will be some accidents but as long as youre not giving them fluorescent pink koolaid them no harm no foul. To be honest Im surprised your 5 yr old has not succumbed to peer pressure about using a sippy cup from their little friends.
  • I would buy smaller cups.  Like Dixie cups.  That is what my kids' daycare did when they moved to the room with a no sippy cup rule.
  • I agree with PP's.  I'd fill the cup only a little bit until they start to get the hang of it.  I'd keep the sippy cups for the car, stores, and going to other people's houses.
  • I would try taking them shopping for their big kid cups with characters on them and letting them pick their own. If you are worried they will spill or will have a hard time transitioning to a cup w/o a lid I would try giving them shot glasses at first. They are small (fun for little hands) and if they spill its not such a big mess to clean. GL
