How many pounds of ground beef...

for a taco bar for 12-15 people for a Superbowl party?

 TIA!

Re: How many pounds of ground beef...

  • if there is going to be other food there, I'd go about 5-6

if it's just the taco bar, I'd probably do about 8-9

but, I've never done tacos for more than 4 (which I use about 1.5-2 lbs for) (I'm upping the amount since superbowl is a long time, and usually people eat more)

  • I did a taco bar for a get together on Saturday night.  There were 11 people total (4 males).  I made 3lbs of ground beef and 2.5 lbs of this taco chicken chili (which you could eat on a salad, or in a tortilla, or just with cheese and such on its own).  I had  leftovers of both.  We also had queso, chunky homemade salsa, homemade quac and spanish rice.  And I put out plenty of lettuce, tomatoes, etc. for people who wanted to make taco salad.

With 12 - 15 people, I'd probably up the beef to 5lbs but keep the chicken the same (I had quite a bit of the chicken leftover probably because it also included black beans, corn, etc. that upped the volume).

I got the chicken recipe from skinnytaste blog and it was soooo good!  I would definitely recommend it for a taco bar!  It was super easy to make in the crockpot.  I made both the chicken and the beef in the morning since I had to work all day Sat.  Chicken cooked on low for 10hours and I refrigerated the beef and then just heated it before the party.

    HTH!

  • I would say 5 to 6, figuring about 2 oz each serving, people likely to have 3 servings (tacos), 6 oz a person times 15 people (always prepare for the max), so 90 oz. 10 oz in a lb is 5.625 so between 5 and 6 lbs!

There are 16 oz in a lb.

I generally do 1 lb for 4 people.  For 15 people I'd do 4 lbs., but 5 wouldn't be out of control either.  If you want to do more, it freezes great.

  • Sounds like most recs are in the same range.  Thanks everyone!!

I did know that, it's just a typo, the math is right
