rec. your large capacity yogurt maker

I am looking to purchase a large capacity yogurt machine and I am confused as to which one is the best. If you make large batches and you like your machine can you please tell me which one you like. Thanks!

Re: rec. your large capacity yogurt maker

  • I'm anxious to hear the answer to this.  We usually use the cooler method, but recently tried using our dehydrator instead.  That was a big 'ol FAIL, the milk didn't solidify.

  • Ugh  I tried to use the cooler method at least 10 times. I just can't get the consistency and sometimes it just turns into yogurt flavored milk. I even tried to use my oven light and that failed miserably. So now I am sucking it up and buying one.

  • Lurker butting in-

I just started making my own and used the crockpot method below.  I have done it twice so far and it has worked great.  I had looked into a yogurt maker but didn't really need or want yet another kitchen appliance in my fairly small kitchen.

  • You can probably make it in your oven. I do.

If your oven has a regular incadescent bulb in it, turn on the light and put an oven thermometer in there. If it gets up to 100* then you can use that as your incubator. The steady heat source is more reliable than either a heating pad which cyles on and off or a cooler.  I make mine in a 2quart glass bowl. I've done it about 6 times and it has never failed.

  • I have one of these and love it.  It can make small or large batches.  Such delicious yogurt!
