Hi ladies! I just moved to OP from Orlando for hubby's job. This weather has been brutal for a girl who just spent five years in the sun!
Re: Just moved to KC!
Welcome to KC! This definitely wasn't the best introduction for you, though Kansas weather can be kind of neurotic so you'll get used to it soon enough!
Enjoy Overland Park and definitely post if you need local tips!
Hi! welcome to KC! I grew up in Kansas City and I just moved to an apartment in Overland Park about a year ago with my DF. (We are getting married in July!) I know the Kansas City area pretty well... so please post if you need any ideas of what to do. A few favorites that you should check out if you have the chance...
1) Crown Center near downtown KC. There is an ice skating rink, a couple of fancy resturants, and some cool places to shop!
2) The Plaza in Kansas City. Again, some fancy resturaunts the Melting Pot is a delicious treat for a special occasion- it's a fondue place, but they have dinner too, though they are most famous for the desserts i think!) and some cool places to shop (The Gap, Banana Republic, Victoria's Secret, Express, etc.) and there is a Cinemark movie theater that has pretty decent ticket prices. I am getting married on the plaza in July!
3) Loose Park in Kansas City, not far from the Plaza. There is a rose garden that will be beautiful when it starts to warm up, a peaceful pond where you can hand out and watch the ducks, and plenty of space to walk around and maybe have a picnic if the weather is nice! It is also a historical area as well... a battle of the Civil War was fought in that park (you can see a plaque on one side of the park)
4) Speaking of the Civil War, there is a place called the Wornall House that was once a hospital in the Civil War, now it is a museum. I think prices to get into the museum are pretty reasonable... and from time to time they do reinactions ad cool stuff like that!
5) The Nelson Art gallary, not far from the Plaza. It has something for everyone- I think they even offer art classes. There is another art museum nearby called Kemper that has more modern art- also very cool!
