We're collecting input from experienced brides for our Georgia Knotties who are just starting to plan their big day. Do you have any words of wisdom to share?

Make the day your own! If you and your FI have something that you want to do that isn't "traditional," just do it.

Slow down! The big day goes by so quickly that you need to take a moment to just take it all in and enjoy! This applies to both the planning and the actual event.

Shell out the big bucks for a professional photographer. You CANNOT re-do your wedding day. I should have paid to hire my own photographer than to let my mother choose the guy.  We were married in SAVANNAH, which houses SCAD. People who go to college for photography. 4 years later I still kick myself for not finding a SCAD student to be a backup so I could have some artistic shots. My "pro" shots are just dreadfully boring. ZZZZZZZZZ.

It's so easy to let the wedding budget get out of control. You'll need to work to keep to it. If you find yourself going over, make sure it's for things you really love and will enhance your day, and not for just some "cool trendy" items that aren't important.

Make a short list of the things that are the most important to you.  For me it was 1)comfy, yet awesome dress, 2) Good Food/Cake, 3) a venue that we both liked.

 From there the rest of the details were just that, details, once I got my priority list done the rest was really fun!

Hire someone to be your mom for the day.  We had a family friend who knew our style and taste.  We hired her to be "mom for the day."  She took care of anything that our reception coordinator didn't, so food for the wedding party at the church, transferring flowers, any last minute stuff that came up.  I told her (my MFTD) that she knew me well enough to make a decision on anything that came up.  That way, my mom and I were able to enjoy the day together without her having to run around taking care of last minute stuff.

Even though most brides want to be in total control, it is perfectly okay to let others help you so that you can actually enjoy your day instead of being stressed about everything!

make a legit list of the family shots you want...and have someone to either wrangle those relatives, or let them know ahead of time to stay after the ceremony.

don't let your husband bring cigars to smoke outside...because even though it makes amazing pictures, you'll have to hunt him down to dance with him.

Everything does not have to be perfect.

Eat and Dance!  Yes, people came to see you and wish you well but you can hold them off for a few minutes.

The biggest advice I can give is to have a day-of-coordinator (DOC) or like the previous poster stated, someone to be in charge for the day. I wasn't sure about it and even had everything booked before I decided it was just too much to handle while I was trying to enjoy our wedding day. My husband thought it was an unnecessary expense. To this day, we both agree that it was the best money we spent out of the entire wedding budget. Our DOC took care of everything. I would have gone insane without her!
