Fire Safety at Home - info

In light of our recent discussion about home fire safety measures, I thought I'd share this info about a fire safety program for St. Paul residents.  There's a fire safety checklist (anyone can download), and then you can make an appointment for a fireperson to visit your home, check your safety equipment, advise you on escape routes, etc.

Some of the info on the checklist is pretty basic common sense, but it still might be a helpful reminder..

Re: Fire Safety at Home - info

  • We did this, primarily because we knew we needed to get a new carbon monoxide detector, and heard about this program being free.

It was a great deal!  Several firemen came to our house in a fire engine, checked-out the house to whatever degree I asked them to, provided and installed carbon monoxide and smoke detectors anywhere I wanted (with their advice as to the best places), and gave us a packet of fire safety info.  Inside was a 'thank you' card and a gift card to Cub.

As a bonus, they let DD sit in the front of the fire engine and pretend to drive it.  :)

  • Oh that's great!  I'm glad to hear you thought it was valuable.  I totally want to do this...  especially to jump-start some long overdue discusssions about fire escape plans.
