Best/Worst....

Ok so onto a totally new thing- I've recently gotten Liv into some good disney flicks and I want to know your opinion-- good, bad, bi*chy or otherwise-- about what are some of your best and/or worst movies you remember watching or, if you have kids, what you have for them.

(and as always extra points for PIP :o

Re: Best/Worst....

  • No kids yet, but this girl I babysat was absolutely obsessed with The Little Mermaid, and because her parents let her watch however much TV she wanted, we watched it every single time I sat for her.  You'd think I'd hate it after all that, but I actually love it.

My niece and nephew are 9 and 7, and still think everything you'd expect them to like is too scary.  lol.

  • All the basic princess stories, and pretty much anything Pixar. Also, Thumbelina, Madagascar, Ella Enchanted (that one might have to wait a year), Tinkerbelle movies, and Princess and the Frog. Don't be fooled, kids can handle a lot more than you think - Emma is four and she LOVES the Princess Bride.
  • Liv likes a bunch of different ones-- but you know me...always looking for the next better thing for her....

I tried to keep her away from spongebob and it just didn't work. I swear there is subliminal messaging in that show....have you ever seen kids be SO hyperactive and then Spongebob comes on and they sit right down and don't move?? It's crazy!!!

  • Ugh I hate Spongebob.  I used to be a part-time nanny, and the only time those kids ever called each other names was after watching Spongebob.  Plus it's so mindless, I just didn't like watching it.

Those girls also LOVED these Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen mysteries.  They were terrible, and I used to get the song stuck in my head - so glad I don't remember that song anymore!  I also really didn't like the Barbie movies (Rapunzel, Princess and the Pauper, etc) - the animation on them is sort of creepy.

All of the classic Disney movies are great.  I also like Bedknobs and Broomsticks for kids - also Disney, but a lot of people don't remember it.  And Mary Poppins.  I think the Incredibles and Finding Nemo are probably the biggest hits with the kids I know, though my cousin (Olivia!) looooooves the Princess and the Frog so I think that's her fave.

Olivia also has videos for the Olivia books, she gets a kick out of that.

  • Since we're already on the subject of TV shows I love Dora, Diego, and the Backyardigans.  I think Max an Ruby is cute, too, but only in small doses.  I hate the Wonder Pets with a fiery passion.

  • There are definitely things in spongebob that are not really for kids, but it's not worth the battle. They're not obvious enough (like ren and stimpy), so I say let her watch it and enjoy the adult jokes. Plus, spongebob is a really nice, friendly, and cute character.
  • Oh, I agree that it's not worth the battle AT ALL for Spongebob.  I just wish it didn't exist, or that the kids I'm around also didn't like it :)

  • Kylie loves MickeyMouse Clubhouse and Elmo. She seems to like Finding Nemo and Beauty and the Beast also. My favorite is and always will be The Little Mermaid.

  • My friends kids all love the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

As a kid I LOVED Oliver and Company. Watched it over and over again, my poor parents. But now I think all of the Pixar movies are super cute. Sam and I watch Despicable Me when we want a good laugh.

One movie that I watched as a child, but now as an adult I question why it's a kids movie is, The Fox and the Hound.

  • My favorite favorite Disney movie of all time is Beauty and the Beast. Always will be. I like some of the Disney/Pixar movies, like Up, Finding Nemo, and Monsters Inc. most of the classics are okay in my book, but I have issues with all the 'new' old movies, like Cinderella 4. Annoys the crap out of me when they can't come up with something new, so they remake the old stuff. I also get very easily annoyed with Spongebob. His voice just grates on me one episode is about all I can handle.

  • I used to love Babe pig in the city 1 and 2...but looking back .... it's a bit harsher than I remember...... serious animal cruelty in that movie..... ugh!

  • This kid MIL watches, went through phases and loved Finding Nemo.  Also, Monsters, Inc and Incredibles - really, almost anything Pixar.  My favorite classic Disney princess movie is Cinderella.  I also love Aladdin.

Outside of animation, my co-worker reminded me of the Newsies (which was when I was a little older, but my younger sister loved it too).  Maybe when Liv is a couple years older...

  • Best - Mary Poppins, Beauty & The Beast, Annie, E.T. (not sure if you think she's too young to watch E.T.), Aristocats, Lady & the Tramp.

Worst - anything with Barney :P

  • I watched the Disney princess movies, Mary Poppins, and a ton of shows on Nick that I can't remember. Does anyone remember Eureeka's Castle with the dragon? I know Walmart sells the dvds of the series. I've been tempted to pick it up.

H's one nephew is 5 and last year he went through an obsession where he had to watch Wall-E daily. Before that was Cars and before that was Toy Story I think.

Grew up on this stuff - plus Herbie, Million Dollar Duck, Mary Poppins, Absent Minded Professor.  A lot of it is dated now since it was made in the 70's, but especially BK & BS and Mary Poppins, with the magic, would probably still be appealing to a kid.

My sister was OBSESSED with this show - we'd watch it EVERY DAY at lunchtime.  Music"Picnic time...Eureeka's Castle"Music

  • I loved Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Pete's Dragon and Mary Poppins. Those were my pretty much go to movies growing up. I've always loved Beauty & the Beast. Finding Nemo, UP and Happy Feet are probably my newest favorites.

My nieces (4 & 5) hate Spongebob and refuse to watch; however, I think that's mostly because everyone in our family brainwashed them to not watch it. The youngest one likes the Franklin series (and aren't that annoying) and Dora. I can't stand WonderPets.

The two kids I used to babysit 2x a week were allowed to watch anything (seriously). The 3 (!!!) year old would always want to watch these scary movies and adult movies and I just couldn't do it even though the mom didn't care. :/

  • any sort of musical, i loved.  i still do!  even if they are too young to know what is going on, show them oklahoma, marry poppins, bye bye birdie, the sound of music, south pacific, hello dolly, my fair lady...

let them appreciate the arts at a young age!  watching these movies from the time i was 3 until...now is what had me knocking on a voice coaches door at the age of 7!

  • I totally visited the set of Eureka's Castle when I was little! :)

Oh, and what about Gullah Gullah Island?? "Come and let's play together, In this bright shiny weather, Let's all go to Gullah Gullah Island!"

Edit: I only passed by Eureka's Castle, but I visited the set of Allegra's Window (also a super cute/fun show...dang, I miss old nick jr)

Ugh.  Max and Ruby makes me want to kill rabbits.  My niece loves that show and I feel homicidal every time I have to watch it with her.  Ruby is SO annoying. </vent>

My niece also really loves Elmo, Dora, Backyardigans, Sponge Bob and a lot of the stuff on the Nick Jr. channel.  Her favorite movie is Monsters, Inc. (though she's recently started telling my mom about  monsters in her bed).

When I was a kid, I also loved Oliver and Company, All Dogs go to Heaven and Little Mermaid.

  • My nephew is into Spongebob, and I don't mind him. He's also huge into Star Wars now.

Disney...I ADORE Mary Poppins. That is probably one of my favorite movies of all time. I also really like Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo. I don't really like Sleeping Beauty, The Parent Trap, Old Yeller.
