1st Goalie fight in 4 years.

Rick DiPietro vs Brent Johnson.

I don't know if I would call it a fight or TKO, whatever it was, I'm still giggling. But I guess that's what you get for trying to take on someone who is 4 inches and 30lbs bigger than you are.

  • That was pretty weak.  I wouldn't call it a fight or a TKO.

Sure I get excited when a goalie is moving towards center ice but really?  I watched it twice and I'm still trying to figure out how this is a 'big hit'.

They mentioned "assorted physical problems" with the player who went down... what were those problems?  Poor goal tending?  Ability to take a hit?

(sorry, I didn't watch the game nor do I follow so I'm just asking in fun)

The goalie in question is forever on IR.  He can't stay healthy no matter what, in the last 4 seasons I think he's played a total of 20 games, and they're still 10 seasons left on his contract.

That's insane!!!  Someone needs to buy him out.  Otherwise their franchise is going under...

    TEN SEASONS.

    Wowsa.  That's intense.

The Islander's goalie has complained about being roughed by Matt Cooke in the past.  Therefore, his clotheslining of Cookie has been a long time coming.

Johnson is not the regular Pens goalie, so not only was there a goalie fight (very very rare) but also, a rarely seen in-net player steps up to defend his teammate.  Normally if the goalie "starts" a fight (either gives or takes a questionable hit) the other players are the ones that decide by battling while the goalie stays in his cocoon.  Having Johnson come out to make  DiPetrio pay was an extremely rare situation.

Plus, one left-hook and the guy is out - pretty awesome!  In the clip, the guy that greets Johnson coming off the ice is Fleury, the regular Pens goalie.

(Sorry if this is too much info and you actually know all this - I was responding to the fact that you mentioned you don't follow closely.  I am a HUGE Pens fan, so this particular video was awesome!)

  • It surprises me that "Pretty Boy" DP left his net.  If the nest would let me put something stronger here, I would.  So instead, I'll just say that it doesn't surprise me that he went down on the first hit--he's a giant PANSY.  (NO NO NO!  Don't hit the money maker!!)  I'm not even sure I would really call that a "fight" since only 1 blow was issued.

  • It was a pretty weak fight, nothing like Roy verses Osgood, which was epic.  I can't believe that DiPietro will be out 4 to 6 weeks, well actually I can....but you know what I am saying.
