I thought you ladies would like to know about this. You can now opt out from all your yellow and white pages. You have to sign up for an account and wait for a password, but then you can opt out of all the things that get sent to your home.

I heard a story on NPR about just this idea. The premise: Since so few people use paper phone books in the age of the internet, why are they still being delivered? Of course, it's about advertising. Most people surveyed responded that they do not want to keep phone book, but they also don't bother to sign up for opt-out services. In places that have experimented with an opt-in-only option, very few people requested the book, and people were pleased with the change.

I'm skeptical because I see vans parked on my street with someone walking and delivering a book to every doorstep. There doesn't seem to be a master list or anything they are following, but who knows.
