Whenever I do the brats, what I do is grill the brats (or brown them in a pan if it is blizzarding outside) until they are almost done. Then, in a bowl, I stir together 1 large jar of kraut per 1-2 packages of brats, 12 oz beer (Bud heavy tastes the best), 1/4 c packed brown sugar, 2 T dijon mustard. Then, put a little bit of kraut on the bottom of the crockpot, then the brats, then the remaining kraut to cover the brats. Let cook on high for 2 - 3 hours or low (better) for 4 - 6 hours. They are SO good! I like to have some carmelized onions prepared for people to use to top them with!
