Minivan recommendations

This is a repost from 12-24 months board, but wanted some local opinions, too. We are looking into trading in our truck and getting a minivan. We are considering the Toyota Sienna, but researching and looking at others (Town and Country, Grand Caravan, Sedona, etc). We would probably be getting a used one - maybe a 2008 or 2009.

Any raves or rants?

TIA

Re: Minivan recommendations

  • My husband's brother and his wife bought a new Honda Odyssey two years ago.  They love it and have put TONS of miles on it and haven't had any issues with it. They live on the east coast and drive lots to visit family in MN, NY, and TX.

  • We have a 2000 Grand Caravan that is working well for us.

  • My parents rented a Grand Caravan in that age era and said that having the stowable seats was really nice but that they were super uncomfortable to actually sit in.  I've never tried them myself - although we're in the market for a new car as well and I just can't wrap my head around "mini van"dom yet.  Good luck!
  • Had nothing but trouble with a Town and Country. Avoid Chrysler at all costs. Angry

  • My mother is a minivan-aholic. And she just got a brand new Toyota Sienna and LOVES it. She had a Town and Country for a few years, but didn't like it very much. She thinks the Sienna is much more comfortable and loves the stowable seats. Since you're in Minneapolis, I would highly recommend Walser. They are a "no negotiation" dealership. My last car was from Walser Mazda in Burnsville and I couldn't say enough about how wonderful they are. They have a Toyota dealership in Bloomington.

I 2nd Walser.  We've worked with the Mazda and Nissan dealer and will never buy from anyone else.  I have no personal mini van experience but FIL had a new Dodge Caravan for a company car and it was nothing but a lemon.  Luckily he only had it for 18 months because of mileage, but he hated it!  Have you though about crossovers at all?
