Bridal Shower Theme

I need help coming up with a theme for a bridal shower. Has anyone been to one recently that was tasteful/different/fun? I know the shower doesn't have to have a 'theme' but I would like some direction as far as decorations go (instead of just using their wedding colors). The shower is April 9th and a light lunch will be served.

Any ideas? Things that have been used in our circle of friends are 'Garden Party' and 'Fiesta' (for a HM to Mexico). Thanks so much!

Re: Bridal Shower Theme

  • For my BFF's shower a few months ago, we went with a toast/champagne theme.

We had a champagne bar with strawberries, orange juice and pomegranate juice to add to the bubbly.  I also got a bottle of sparkling grape since I knew there were a couple of pregos attending.

We used beige/gold/bronze ballons for decoration.  Get it?  Like champagne bubbles?  The favors were mini champagne glasses with gold Hershey's kisses.  Again, like champagne glasses.  And the cake said "A Toast to the Bride"

Hope this helps.  This photo served as inspiration:

  • My bridesmaid did a tropical theme for our Hawaiian wedding.  When I was the bridesmaid we did a kitchen theme for a couple who were buying a new house instead of going on a honeymoon.    The bride is a good cook but has always had teeny tiny kitchens.  We got her all the cooking and baking goodies she always wanted.  We also did a recipe book where everyone brought their favorite recipes.
  • Something Blue, Champagne and Cupcakes, theme based on their honeymoon, theme based on their personality as a couple or if they have a cute "how we met/got engaged" story
  • I did a shower for my sister with an Asian theme. I served Japanese food. Hung pink circle paper lanterns. The paper goods all had cherry blossoms on them. I put together little goodie bags with cherry blossom hand sanatizer, fortune cookie shaped soaps and tied with twine with two chop sticks on top. The name tags had cherry blossom stickers on them. The invitations were on pink paper with glittery cherry blossoms and backed with a chocolate brown paper. One of the games we played was about different wedding traditions in different countries. We also did that toilet paper bride game cuz it is just a ton of fun. I put out lots of flowers and it all came together really nicely.
  • I hosted a "high tea" shower where the ladies wore fancy hats and white gloves,  It was really charming.  Scones, tea, little sandwiches, champagne, etc.

My friend just had an Alice in Wonderland shower.  I don't really see what's especially bridal about that theme but all the guests loved it anyways.  Little cupcakes with flags that said "Eat Me" and also tea party stuff and red hearts everywhere (Red Queen).

You could do an "April Showers" theme and have invites with little umbrellas on them, and drinks with umbrellas, and lots of pretty flowers.

  • Themes at showers I've attended:

Naughty & Nice (lingerie, "honeymoon" shower)

    For the Kitchen

Around the House (assign each guest a room where their gift would go)

    Tea Party

Garden (bringing the "outdoor" venue inside, since it was too cold to be out)

    Petit Fors and Parfaits

Around the Clock (assign each guest a time of day when their gift would be used)

Black & White (they told the bride to wear red, all guests were in b/w)

    "Blushing" Bride (all pink theme)

    Wine Tasting/Pairing Party

  • We had a dessert shower for my friend whose fiance proposed over dessert. Most of the other showers I've hosted, we just used the bride's wedding colors and/or patterns (e.g. turquoise and B&W damask, pink and green scrollwork, etc.). I have seen cute ones where the theme was "shower" - the favors were cute umbrellas, etc.
  • I just threw my SIL a "Something Blue" shower. It came out very pretty...classy. Here are some photos from it...there are a ton, but you can se the details. The favors were blue glass wine stoppers. The bride loves her vino. https://picasaweb.google.com/opalchick/MonicaSSomethingBlueBridalShower#

I'm sorry...I don't know how to make it clicky!

  • I threw my sister a Kentucky Derby Themed Bridal Shower that was lots of fun.  We held it at the track and everyone showed up with fun hats.

  • Although it's probably been done a zillion times, we did a Mexican theme and loved it.  We had mexican food catered in and served margaritas.  It was cute and worked great for our friend throughing it who was on a budget!
