San Jose Ladies, a question

My Sister, her hubby, and 3 kids just moved to Cupertino last month. They don't have any friends in the area, and we are their closest family in Sac. She is a SAHM and her bday is next month and I was thinking about getting them a membership to some place. I know they have been to Santa Cruz a couple of times so driving is not an issue. What would be a good family membership place for that area? A zoo, museum, etc.

Thanks!

Re: San Jose Ladies, a question

  • How old are the kids?

There's Happy Hollow Park and Zoo in SJ- it has a little zoo and some kiddie rides and a petting zoo, but if the kids are older, they may think it's a little cheezy.

There's also the Children's Discovery Museum in SJ and Gilroy Gardens (in Gilroy, obviously).

I'm sure those with kids bigger than mine will have a lot more ideas as well - we haven't really figured out what all is around here for families/kids yet!  :-)

  • Haven't been in a while, but love love love the Children's Discovery Museum in downtown San Jose.

If they are day trippers...you can get a reasonable membership to the Monterey Aquarium for the family and that's about an hour and 15 minute drive from Cupertino (not in commute traffic).

I'll try to think of more ideas.

  • There is also the Tech Museum in San Jose.

You can also get a subscription to the San Jose Children's Musical Theater.

  • Oops! I forgot to say the ages. The twins are 4 and the youngest is 2 1/2. I looked at the Discovery Museum and I love that idea, but we really can't afford $120.
  • Happy Hollow is AMAZING. I would get a membership there in a heartbeat if I didn't live so far up the peninsula.
  • We have Happy Hallow and CDM.

HH is $90 and CDM is $120, and that is for a full year.

There is also Gilroy Gardens, and I don't remember the price on that.

I would suggest she get involved with the boards maybe...we occasionally do GTG's and that might be a good jumping off point for her...it was for me.
