A funny Brianne story

So.

When we were kids we always bought our Grampy a box of Whitman's chocolates for his birthday/Christmas/etc. I was at Target and got thinking about that. The double layer of candies, the jordan almonds, the cherry cordials, the little chocolate nut cups, and how he would let us kids have the first pick out of the box. I was feeling really nostalgic so I found a heart shaped box of Whitman's chocolates and decided that I would buy it and put it in my desk at work. That way Seth would never know and I could have a piece (or two or three) at day to satisfy my sweet tooth (teeth).

I buy the $6 box of chocolates and go to the car. Now, I have no self control so I pop that puppy open. 10 pieces of chocolate. No double layer. No jordan almonds. I actually said outloud, "You're kidding." I called my sister to tell her the story. She and I laugh and she told me to just give the box to some body. I told her I couldn't because I ate a piece of the chocolate to deal with the fact that there wasn't enough chocolate.

I totally got suckered into the Valentine's Day marketing ploy where they jip you on chocolate!

Re: A funny Brianne story

  • Make sure Seth knows you bought it and don't have a secret admirer :)

My Grandpa always had the Whitman's , I loved going to his house and getting to select my piece of chocolate. I bought a box a couple of years ago and was disappointed, there was the double layer but it didn't have the little menu on the lid. First one I picked was coconut and I was bummed (I seem to always get coconut and I don't like it!) I also feel like the chocolate itself changed a bit, it's still good but there is a slight difference, to me at least.

Oh, and I totally would have opened that bad boy in the car too!

  • I don't know if there's anything more disappointing.....go with wine, I'm not sure I've ever been disappointed by wine.   ;)   For me it's the caramels!!!
  • I've always been a Russel Stover fan myself.  Two or three years ago, I decided to treat myself to box after not having any for a long time.  I pouted all afternoon after I opened it up and found out that the boxes are now 12 oz. instead of 16 oz.  The cardboard box is the same shape but now the chocolates sit in a plastic tray instead of paper cups so they aren't as tightly packed together.  Also, since there are fewer chocolates in the box they took away the apricot cream, which was one of my favorites.  Bastards!

  • Haha.

I hate it when they don't have the key inside the cover. I always end up with those jelly ones Ick!

I remember one time DH and I got a box w/out a key and there were a bunch of candies left with one bite taken out of them.

  • I'm not a huge sweet tooth, but if I got myself all pumped up about a little splurge purchase like that and shelled out the cash only to have such an astundingly disappointing experience when I opened the box, I'd wanna choke a b!tch out. For realz. Don't mess with a girl's treats, man!

This was what my parents bought for Valentine's Day when we were kids.  My sister and I got one little box each and my parents got one huge box. I was always jealous.  For our first Valentine's Day, MH bought me the huge box.  :-)

  • What a rip-off! :/
