Nashville area Fertility Centers?

I was supposed to go to the Nashville Fertility Center tomorrow to see Dr. Hill.

Well, they just called to inform me that they don't take Aetna insurance.  So we have this huge amount of fertility coverage withthem (yay) but it's useless.  I'd have to pay out of pocket.  I don't think so.

I am freaking out.  Are there other places? I saw Center for Reproductive health, but everyone I know recommended NFC so I am scared to just pick a Dr. based on my insurance.  Any experiences, recs, advice?

Re: Nashville area Fertility Centers?

  • Other than NFC, I only know of Center for Reproductive Health too.  Depending on how it goes there, if at some point you really wanted to go to NFC, you can always file the insurance claims with Aetna yourself.  You won't have any write offs, but your insurance will reimburse you for much of your out of pocket expense.   NFC has to give you the paper work to file, but its really very easy.  Maybe call Baptist and Centinneal and see if they have any recommendations?  That is so odd that they do not accept Aetna.  I came to realize that not all of the admin support staff there knows exactly whats going on.  Literally one girl would tell me one thing about my insurance and the one next to her would say something different.  Then they will call me and tell me something else!  That is my biggest complaint about NFC.  I encourage you to find out as much as possible from Aetna about your IF coverage and in network/out of network benefits, etc.
  • Thanks Melissa.  I will see if I can figure out whether what she told me is correct or not. This is so stressful! Really, I don't know which place I will like, but I got a few recs for NFC so I thought that was the "go to" place.  For all I know, the other place could be great.  BUt it makes me nervous to not have any recs (even online! lol) for it....

  • I don't know anything about a fertility center, but I do have Aetna as my primary insurance & then Tri-Care as my secondary. Anyway...I had been referred to a Physical Therapist who specializes in Fibromyalgia, but Aetna did not cover her. I was advised to call Aetna & speak with them about the situation. I believe I spoke with a Case Manager. Maybe you can can give them a call and talk to them about your situation. They may decide to cover you. If not, they do keep ratings on doctors...so maybe that would help you.

I hope you can figure out something.?

  • When I had Aetna I was able to get a gap exception for treatment at NFC (just means that treat it as a contracted provider). As pp mentioned you have to file all the claims yourself, but you get the same coverage as you would if you were going to a provider which is contracted with them. It's worth a shot.

Otherwise, you can still use your fertility insurance coverage, you will just have to file yourself and pay the out-of-network rates (it's typically 60/40 as compared to 80/20 in network).

I would not recommend Center for Reproductive Health. I don't want to go into why on an internet message board, but let's just say I don't think their ethical standards are high enough.

There is an OB/GYN at Vanderbilt who specializes in treating female factor infertility. I can't remember her name, but I remember that she IS contracted with Aetna, so if you call them and ask them to recommend a provider in Nashville they will probably have her name.

    Good luck!

  • The VUMC doctor's name is Dr. Esther Eisenberg. They do not do IVF.

  • Thank you everyone.

When my husband called to cancel our appt. for today at NFC he asked again about our insurance and they just kept saying they don't take it, so we'll be paying out of pocket.

I am trying to figure some things out with my current ob/gyn and see if I can't get them to step it up a bit......

Cjsbdl - that would be really weird if this is the same Dr. b/c my mom met someone today who is from where we are in MI who's daughter is a Dr. at Vandy who specializes in high risk pregnancies, etc.  I wonder if it's her..... I'll definitely be calling her! I'm not sure I could handle IVF anyway so that may just work out fine.  (And I am still stupidly optimistic and hoping I won't get that far, but we all know what that means! ha)

do you mind emailing me at jennifecruger at aol dot com?  I do have an apppointment at the other place b/c I panicked and just set one so I'd definitely like more info, but I'm already feeling like I should not go.
