Seed starting

This may be a stupid question, but can I set out my seedlings too early? I'm in Central Florida and um, yeah, we are done with winter! I've had my tomatoes and peppers growing inside under lights for about a month. What's the worst that could happen if I moved them out to the raised bed now (after hardening off of course!)?

Re: Seed starting

  • Well, is the soil warm enough? If so, it should be fine. If it gets cold again you might need to cover them up.

  • SO the whole purpose is just really to get a jump start on the season?

  • The purpose of seed starting? Yep - for people in other regions, like me, the ground doesn't get warm enough for some seeds to start and produce in time, so we start the plants indoors to get a jump start :)

  • I live in southern new york, and starting your seeds early is so important. mostly bc you never know when the ground will be warm enough to plant.
