throwing a party during a renovation?

Hi ladies,

I'm a newbie around here, and normally post on the Crafts board,  but I have a question that you might be able to help me with.

My daughter's birthday is coming in a couple months, and we want to throw her a party at home (she's turning 3).  However, we're in the middle of some minor renovations in our home.  We're planning on changing the fireplace in our living room from marble to stone and creating a new mantle as well.  The actual work won't begin until March, meaning that the living room might still be under construction when we want to have that party.

Would you still throw the party at your house or would you find a different venue?  We live in California, so we could probably have the party primarily in our backyard, but I'd feel weird not letting people inside the house as well (I mean except for using the bathroom, that is).

Thanks for your input!

Re: throwing a party during a renovation?

  • Can the area just be blocked off...do you have a basement to use?
  • I wouldn't let it stop you, either block it or put up a sign, Pardon our Renovation.

I once attended a birthday party in maybe 5th grade and they were doing renovation.....they were going to either tear down a wall or redo it and they let all the little girls draw best wishes on it and trace their bodies on the wall then they took a great big picture of all of us.  Of course we thought it was cool that we were writing on the wall, we didn't even think about the whole renov project or feel put off.

  • I would find a new venue, especially since it's a child's party. You don't want the kids to get into something and possibly get hurt.

  • I must be misunderstanding this reno, because I don't see how changing a fireplace would take 2 months.  Either way, I'd have the party at home.  It's a bday, not a wedding, or blacktie cocktail party.  You can do something creative to block it off if need be.
