I saw your question about BFing in another post. It has been going OK. I am just now getting the hang of it. I am pumping because the babies were latching, or so I thought, but not swallowing. In the hospital I guess they weren't really getting enough so we gave them some formula one night at the nurses suggestion. When we came home formula seemed so much easier because we could know exactly how much we were getting and that takes a lot off of the conscience. I tried giving it another go but my breasts were huge and hard as rocks so the babies were not going anywhere near them. H went out and picked up the Medela Pump in Style on the go backpack and I love it. I used it immediately and pumped two nice sized bottles! I know pumping takes twice the time but seeing the poopy diapers and knowing how many oz. I am producing makes it so worth it to me.
The hospital was really great, there is an amazing team of nurses and LCs that were helpful to us. I felt a little pressure from the LCs to avoid formula but in the middle of the night when LOs were screaming and I was at a loss, I felt very supported by the nurses to give formula and do what was best. It was like having advocates on both sides.
I am hoping to exclusively pump but if I need to supplement I am 100%OK with that. The babies getting food is the most important thing to me. I don't feel like I am missing out on any bonding by not putting them to the breast, but some might disagree.
Thanks for asking and thanks for reading this whole thing, if you did! I thought it would be so easy to BF and never considered any of the issues that came up! If I wasn't going to be off of work for the next few months, I have no idea what I would be doing!
Re: SouthSeasBride - BFing
I'm so glad you have found what works for you! That is half the battle!
I hope everything else is going well and that you are enjoying your babies to no end! Isn't it crazy to think you carried both of them for so long and now they are here?!?
Can't wait to see more pics and hear updates on how you/they are doing
