Vacuum Question

After vacuuming alot this past week I've come to the conclusion that I hate my current vacuum. We have a Bissell Pet. Like most vacuums they start off good and then they start to suck (and not in a good way).

Our dog sheds alot! And it's not short hair. It's the whispy long hair. It flies everywhere and sticks to everything. If I could I would get the Dyson Animal but....that's not going to happen anytime soon.

We have carpet in most of the house and only tile in the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room, and front entrance. So it'll have to be a vacuum that can handle carpet. I would love for it to be light weight. I don't know how pratical that would be, but ours right now is like a beast.

I've been eyeing this one for awhile: http://www.target.com/Shark-Navigator-Never-Suction-Upright/dp/B002IPHBNE/ref=br_1_4/177-5957422-2259750?ie=UTF8&id=Shark%20Navigator%20Never%20Suction%20Upright&node=286216011&searchSize=30&searchView=list&searchPage=1&sr=1-4&qid=1297112812&rh=&searchBinNameList=target_com_category-bin%2Cstyle_name%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_primary_color-bin&searchRank=salesrank&frombrowse=1

But I can't really decide if it will handle the job I want it to do. Could you recommend to me a lightweight vacuum that is below $200?

Re: Vacuum Question

  • My SIL has the vacuum you mentioned. They have a dog and two kids. I love them, but they are some of the worst mess makers I've ever seen. They really like the vacuum, and it cleans up their messes well. They've have it at least a year, and I don't think they've had any problems with it.

    We have this one: http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_006W897383110001P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

It has clogged once, but it was because I forgot to clean the filter for a while. It is definitely better than the Bissell we had before. We have two dogs. They both shed quite a bit, and it gets the job done.

ETA: I just wanted to add that SIL and I both have carpet in almost all rooms of our houses.

  • I use a Hoover WindTunnel Pet Series to clean up after my 2 hairballs on legs. It works so much better than my generic Bisell did, but I've only had it for a few months so I can't vouch for the long-term quality. We have about half carpet/half tile in our house.

It's currently $139 at Target. (sorry, I don't know how to make it clicky) http://www.target.com/Hoover-WindTunnel-Pet-Rewind-Upright/dp/B002HFA5F6

  • I have a shark, but just one of the lighter models that is cordless. It was about $70? I like to use it for the in between days of using the regular vacuum. I HATE vacuuming, but I have a long haired cat who sheds like crazy, and tears up her furry toys and scratching post, so I have crap everywhere. I use the lighter model about every other day and does really well. Then on the weekends it is the big vacuum. Although we do have a Dyson Animal but I don't want to pull that sucker out every other day.
