Cat owners...does your's do this?

I am CONSTANTLY finding things thrown into his water dish. It's Sampson's obsession. His favorite toy is a shoe lace and we always find them thrown in his dish just floating.

I find receipts in the water dish that he takes off our desks when we're not looking.

Just now I found my brand new leather glove he must've pulled out of my gym bag soaked in his water dish.

What gives? Is that normal?

  • My friend's cat puts stuff down his tub drain.  He recently snaked the drain because water wasn't going down and pulled out a dozen cat toys!!

    Cats are silly :-)

  • Hahahaha! No, my cats don't put their toys in water, but I'm laughing at the cat dropping its toys down the drain!  I love kitty quirks... cats are so exasperating/funny :)

One of our cats will never drink directly from a water dish.  She always has to "test" the water first by dipping her paw in it and then licking the water off her paw.  Sometimes she feels the need to do this repeatedly (dripping water all over along the way) before settling in to drink from the dish.  Silly messy neurotic cat :)

  • Yes, I often find their toys in the water dish.  We also have to hide TP because otherwise they will play with it and dunk it in their water dish too.  Silly cats!

  • Mine do not.  I know a cat who scoops her water out of her dish though.  Not for any purpose, just for fun.

  • My cat doesn't put his toys in his water dish. But he HAS to pull the water dish with his paw until the water spashes out onto the floor before drinking from it. Every time. Gotta love cats - they always have a mind of their own.

This totally cracks me up, and I thought my cat did strange things.

He doesn't put stuff in his water dish, but as PPs said he never drinks directly from the dish.  He prefers the messy paw dipping method.  Its actually cute to watch

Funny... I guess my cat isn't such a weirdo after all with that dip-dip-dipping drinking method.

My sister's cat will ONLY drink out of pint glasses.  She won't touch water in anything else.  So she has her very own pint glass to drink out of.  So silly.

My SIL's family cat drinks out of dixie cups.  He will drink out of his water dish when there is no other option, but water in a dixie cup is like the best treat in the whole wide world.

I do find things thrown in my cat's water dishes...not to the extent of a glove or something though!  That's interesting.  I always think the toys just end up in there on accident when they're playing- not like they put them in there on purpose.  I could be totally wrong though.

  • Mine put stuff in their water dish sometimes, but I think it's sort of by accident. Like they're playing with a toy and accidentally throw it in there.

They're obsessed with pushing things to the floor. Pens on our desk - must be on the floor. Paperweight on the book shelf - on the floor. If we pick whatever they push to the floor back up, they knock it down again. It turns into a really hilarious game.

  • My cat is always putting his toys in his water dish. I stopped giving him a water dish though because that is all he was using it for. It doesn't matter if it is a clean dish with fresh water, he only drinks from the bathroom sink which is also where he sleeps. I'm not sure how to get him to use a water dish anymore. Pretty entertaining though, he gets his face so wet. I thought cats didn't like water..
