Food for 1st Birthday Party
We're hosting our daughter's 1st b-day party at the end of the month. Much to my dismay, it has shaped up to be quite a large group (approx. 50 adults, 20 kids). Due to the size of the group, we are holding the party outside of our home (we live in an apt. in NYC). The party is from 11 - 1. We were going to do a spread of bagels, cream cheese, tuna fish and egg salads, fruit. After that I am at a loss... I have no where to warm food (ie. quiche or other brunch-y foods) and think it would also be hard given the size group(and $$) to add something like this. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Food for 1st Birthday Party
what about a spiral sliced ham
I would add some pastries and danishes, and that will pair well with the cake itself
i like the ham idea... i would definitely add some more protein, maybe chicken salad sandwiches? i'd also add in a veggie tray, maybe a green salad or pasta salad. chips and dip?
your party is right smack dab around the time that most people are eating lunch so they'll be expecting plenty of food.
Thanks, ladies! I think I was shying away from the more lunch type items b/c cake will be out by 12:30. But, I was going by my own personal preferences.
In addition to your fruits/salads, I would do ham and turkey sandwiches, 1 on mini buns and 1 on criossants. This is served at every brunch bridal shower/bday party in my family and is always a huge hit. I've helped my mom make them for showers and it wasnt too time consuming.
Purchase the buns/croissants fresh in bulk sized quantities (where I live we use Costco, Sams or Walmart but many bakeries offer these items) and the lunchmeat and pre-assemble the sandwiches the night before. Put the assembled sandwiches back in the bag/tray the buns came in/on and then transfer to nice tray at the venue. You can put a tray inbetween the 2 sandwhich trays that would have mustard, mayo and slices of cheese (or any other garnish ppl would like) and each person can make the sandwhich to their liking.
This is a great idea, we always do the same for showers etc. We spread cream cheese instead or mayo mustard (with the lunchmeat). They are delicious and a little more "tea partyish"..if that makes sense.
LOL!
I'm also dutch - my family doesn't make buttered buns but h's family does. Blech.
