Back on the chopping block again...maybe...
Today was a tough day at work. We are the largest public school district on Long Island. Today, 30% of the teaching was staff was told that if everything goes wrong - aka, the governor's cuts go through, the property tax cap is instilled, and the budget fails - that this 30% of the teaching staff (through the entire district) will be let go. We're talking 375 teachers. The problem is that most likely, the governor's cuts will happen, and the property tax cut is 50-50 right now. So it looks like they're going to be excessing anyways. Right now, I'm in limbo. We won't know about budget excesses until the budget is adopted in April, and then we won't know for sure until Super Tuesday in May.

RIP Dr. Irving Fishman - 10/1/19-7/25/10 - thank you for holding on for me.
You made my wedding day complete.

Re: Back on the chopping block again...maybe...
I'm really sorry...I completely understand how frustrating that is!! This is my 4th year teaching and every year so far, I've gotten a pink slip. Last year was the scariest because it was the first time that they actually did lay off many of the lesser-seniority teachers (many of whom still don't have jobs today). I've been lucky to have gotten my job back every year, but the emotional roller coaster and frustration of getting laid off and not knowing is one of the worst feelings in the world...I really felt disrespected and annoyed with having to go through that every year. This year, they haven't passed the slips out, but they will be coming around late March-early April so I'm sure it will be another year of the same.
My advice is always keep your resume updated but I hope that you don't have anything to worry about!! Keep us updated!
oh goodness. thats not fun
i get it, though...my company is already planning their second wave of layoffs (luckily i missed the first, but who knows about the 2nd)
