BR: Gift Ideas

One of my best friend's is expecting. She's due on 9/30. She asked me to be the godmother.  I want to get a gift since I'm so stinking excited for her. However, I'm a little worried since it's still so ridiculously early in the pregnancy...and I have no idea what to get.

She's team green (not that we'd know the sex yet, anyway) - and she already has a boy and a girl - so, she has plenty of stuff for Baby #3 already.

Any ideas for what to get? Think it's too early to get something?

    prenatal massage

This (or even any spa treatment. she won't be able to use the massage until after the 1st trimester but still!), or if you want something for the baby, maybe their first bible? I think that's a traditional gift given by a Godmother. Like a Precious Moments one or something.

Baby, you've got the sort of eyes that tell me tales...

Why can't you get massages until after 1st tri?  I never bothered to ask or look into that.  H just got me a gift card for a 30 min pregnancy massage for my birthday, so I'm looking forward to that, but I never thought the timing of it was an issue.  Granted, it'd feel a lot better later in pregnancy when your belly's huge since your back starts to get sore....

Because certain areas of your body can trigger contractions when massaged. So if you're in the 1st tri, it can cause you to miscarry. I got one at around 21 weeks and it was awesome. I was having bad sciatic pain and it relieved it completely.

My doctor said it was fine because any reputable place that offers it knows where not to rub to cause possible contractions but the place I got it wouldn't consider it. They suggested to wait until at least 15 weeks.

From what I've read online though, each place is different. The place I went gave me tons of pillows to prop up on etc but I've read that some places have a bed with a hole for the belly to go through. I probably would've killed someone to do that one because I miss laying on my stomach so much!!!

    prenatal massage

I was thinking this, but she lives in SC...so, it's not so easy for me.  Her husband works ridiculous hours (to the point she's pretty much a single mom most of the time)....so, I can't really depend on him to help me out.

  • I also say massage, look at spafinder, com to see if you can buy a card that she can use.  and as for not getting on in the 1st tri, I've been getting them every other week since 8 weeks at the Dr's suggestion.  i can honestly say it has made life so much easier.  I asked my Dr about it and she wasn't worried, actually encouraged me to continue.  Just make sure the therapist is schooled in prenatal massage.

Another thing is a pedicure, it takes all I've got to reach my feet and take care of them. and even with all I've got, my feel look and feel like crap

Another thing is restaurant gift cards.  there were nights i was in bed at 6pm exhausted.  we had a stock of restaurant gift cards DH used to feed himself.  Curbside to go has been a life saver.

I gave my BFF a certificate to a 3d ultrasound place.  she LOVED it and never would have paid for it herself.  my Dr's office does these, but i know there are many licensed facilities outside Dr's offices too.

As for traditional Godmother gifts, I agree with a bible, or maybe savings bonds.  My sisters godfather bought her savings bonds every year up to her 18th brthday.  she didn't know about them until her 18th b-day, made for a very special day for her.

  • Just look up spas in her area or surrounding, call the spa, pay over the phone and have them mail her the gift card and a note that its from you. That's how I did Leslie's gift card.
