Re: Kathy
Yeah, the education system is a mess here. The thought of Macy going to the local public schools makes me want to cry! My H and I have talked about what we are going to do in 4 years if we are still here (and Macy will be of school age). There is one private school around here that is ok, but I would really like her to go to a Catholic school about an hour away in Corpus Christi. Which means we would need to move and become Catholic. Ha. I know that is not a valid reason on picking a religion but I think it's a better option than sending her to public schools.
We haven't really discussed schooling lately. But my H isn't really favorable of the idea of moving. We'll see. Please say a little prayer for us that we are out of Texas ASAP!!!
Baby Macy is here!

I could be wrong, but I don't think you have to be Catholic to send your kid to most Catholic schools. I am sure that when Macy gets closer to school age, your H will be willing to consider whatever it takes to get her a decent education! It's just hard to feel a sense of urgency when you still have four years to go!
Your H could always bceome a Diplomatic Security agent for State so you guys can send your kids to international schools.
Haha. I don't think I would last for 5 minutes! If I can't get over the culture shock of South Texas after 8 years, I think another country would be out of the question. Although, South Texas is kinda like another country......
I really admire you for going! I wish I could live outside my comfort zone!

Yeah, I've gotten the impression that your husband is a bit of a homebody and a big fan of stability too. I could certainly understand how the idea of moving every 2-3 years would be unattractive to many people. I, on the other hand, am disappointed that we'll actually have to come back to DC at some point. If I had my way, we'd make sure to be in Africa when the kids hit high school so that State will send them to boarding school in Switzerland. We've got to take advantage of any perks we can get to compensate for the huge pay cut DH took, right?
As for Texas being like another country, I often wonder what my life would have been life if my parents had kept us in Texas instead of moving back to Florida. The lifestyle and pace of things are just so different between the two.
Me too. I'm sure it varies depending on the rules of each school, but I remember when I was growing up, my neighbor was Jewish & she went to a Catholic school. She had to take religion classes like Southseas said. I remember thinking it was kind of strange for her to go to a Catholic school & wondered if she was treated differently.
