Poll: The college years

I had a conference today in Irvine. I went to UCI for undergrad. Being back there brought back so many memories of college.

Think back to your college days...

What are your 5 favorite college memories?

Re: Poll: The college years

  • 1) the college prep camp I had during the summer before I started.

    2) my first apartment that did not have a microwave.  We had to cook /reheat everythng in a pan or in the oven.

    3) being in a sorority and having themed dances

    4) ditching class and going to disneyland

    5) midnight del-taco run

  • Great poll!  My 5 favorite memories as a Bruin:

    - playing board games/Uno until the wee hours in the morning in the study lounge with my floormates during my first year

    - working as an orientation counselor for two years (how I met DH!) and getting to work with incoming students directly

    - participating in Pilipino Cultural Night and performing in Royce Hall...amazing

    - Diddy Riese cookies!

    - last but certainly not least, all the UCLA vs. USC football games...4 straight wins for the Bruins while I was an undergrad!

  • All I can remember in college were the following:

    1. midnight runs and eating at Subway

    2. Thursday night was party night-woo hoo!

    3. finding out my crush from high school was attending the same college and he remembered who I was- we went out during the time were there.

    4. Riding the train to NYC for the weekend to hangout with friends.

    5. Sneaking into the Yale library pretending/wishing I attended there.?

    6. Class? what class?

I love reminiscing those fun filled days and nights.?

    ?

  • 1. Saturday brunch with biscuits and gravy.....soooo delicious

    2. After brunch heading to football games (go Vandy!) Hearing the foghorn when the Dores scored.

    3. Hanging out at my sorority house

    4. Always having someone to talk to in the dorms

    5. Exploring Nashville

  • 1. ?Being at bars until 6am then sleeping until 2pm then eating, getting ready and going out again.

    2. ?Dancing on the bar at our regular spot and the dirtiest bar EVER (The Village Idiot) and leaving my bra behind.

    3. ?Broadway show nights and dinner at Carmine's (penne with broccoli and sausage and a bread pudding the size of my head).

    4. ?Late night eating - pizza freshman year and cosmic cantina the next three.

    5. ?Not a good memory but a very significant part of my college time - September 11. ?Feeling my building shake and watching everything unfold out my window for the next two hours before being evacuated.?

  • 1) My last class at LAVC before transferring to Cal was Poli Sci. The tests were tough and the teacher read everyone's grades out loud. No one ever got above a B- even with the extra credit questions.......except me. He would read the grades out loud and then he would always say "Ms. AlisaS received...A+ with a total of 110, 115, 120 points......". And the rest of the class would glare at me.  Fvckers. Ha!

    2) Living in San Francisco and getting the best dim sum and walking to the park to watch the Buffalo.

    3) Staring up at the ceiling of the library at UCB when I first arrived. Awesome.

    4) Did I say living in SF?

    5) Getting to visiit my grandfather every weekend - he had Alzheimer's and we would sit for hours. I would tell him his favorite stories and 10 minutes later he would forget I told them and I would tell them again. And he would laugh for hours.

  • Yay, this is a fun one!

I have so few college memories since I wasn't a traditional student (worked all day, went to school at night and on weekends, was engaged to DH and living with him at the time) so I missed out on some of the typical college experiences. But here are mine from Cal State L.A.:

    1. King Taco on campus (it's gone now :( )

    2. The AMAZING sandwiches at the outdoor cafe near Martin Luther King Hall. OMG I still dream of those sandwiches!

    3. Studying at the above cafe in between classes, under the trees, eating those amazing sandwiches and sipping on coffee. It was so relaxing. These days I hardly get time to myself like that.... for a good reason, of course!

    4. Dr. Bowman's lectures. He was by far the best professor I have ever had. Lucky me - he taught many of the Political Science classes .

    5. Being exposed to so much diversity. Cal State L.A.'s student body were very politically and socially active when I was there. It was neat to see demonstrations, rallies, different cultural events, etc. on any given day.

  • Funny, like Gretchen, I missed out on some of the typical college experiences since I was dating exH. But this is what I remember as a CSUN Matador:

    1.  Northridge Earthquake...was living at home in N.Hwd.  Was an officer in the Accounting Society so was cleared to entered and clear out club belongings from our old building.  Scary.  Sad.  Eerie.

    2.  Rainy winter in the temporary classrooms set up on the muddy baseball fields because of the earthquake damage.  Invested $10 in a pair of nice rain boots at the army surplus store, best money spent considering how much rain and mud there was that semester.

    3.  Running, campaigning, and being elected as President of the Accounting Society.  While I didn't have the best grades, I would like to think that I was good on the PR front with students, faculty and recruiters.  I had kick-arse speeches!

    4.  Turning 21 and drinking for reals.  Tommy's mid-night runs!

    5.  Graduating and feeling grown up.

Post College - my sis went to CSUN too, and also studied accounting.  Many of the faculty remembered me, even 10 years later, so that was neat to have made such a nice impression.

  • 1. Hanging out in the apartments with new friends, and their friends...the UCLA men's basketball team (the Obana brothers).

    2. (Goes with the above)...Seeing the video for Buddy Holly by Weezer for the first time and thinking that I don't remember this episode of Happy Days. (Weezer is DH's favorite band).

    3. Getting my fake i.d. on a trip to Phoenix, at their DMV (I can never run for President).

    4. Going out Thurs-Sun (I never had Friday classes) after Kings games.

    5. Becoming friends with one of the most amazing people in the world. We completed our Masters together, and now we're both SAHM. She inspires me to be the best mom.

  • 1. Stealing a shopping cart at 2am and riding in it up and down the street.

    2. 'SC football tailgates and games.

    3. Late night runs to Chano's and drinkd at La Barca

    4.  Scavenger hunt with my sorority sisters

    5. Staying up all night to meet Sugar Ray.
