so we just got back from the vet. not too bad, just $130 for the appt, urinalysis and meds. so far, it's just a UTI. there could be a larger issue but we wont know until we do some blood work and maybe an xray. the doc and i made the decision to do meds for the UTI to see if it clears up completely. then, thats all it was. but, if in a week the symptoms are still there, then we need to re-evaluate.
im glad he's doing ok...he's peeing a lot and it's so wierd to see it all red. i'm just hoping the meds do their job. i can't even think about it possibly being anything more then that..like cancer or a tumor or something.
Re: vibes - update
Did the urinalysis show that it was a UTI? Or are they giving you antibiotics and crossing their fingers?? I hope its a UTI and the antibiotics clear it up.
Not sure what type of xray they want to do but when Raven had her knees and hips xrayed she had to be knocked out for it. That was $$$$.
i hope it's just that, it probably is. my il's dog gets them all the time.
my friend's cat was sick and was peeing outside the box a lot in her guest bath. during a party she asked if i would keep an eye out for the bathroom in case it happened during the party so she could take care of it discreetly. i went in there once and there was kool-aid colored urine on the floor. i was like "oh my god!! there's something wrong with your cat!!!!!" it was like it had its period. i had never seen that before and it scared me!
that's pretty much what it looks like. pretty freakin disturbing.
BMW - yes, the urinalysis showed that there is definitely a UTI, but they can't determine from that if it's just lower or if it's upper as well. also, he noticed a smell to his breath and he said there could be a larger issue (maybe periodontal disease) that is affecting his kidneys. he's a bichon and also thye can be prone to bladder stones i guess? so thats what the xray would be for.
so..i'm hoping that the antibiotics work and clear it up. if it doesnt or if it keeps coming back..it could be a larger issue.
***on a news on a freakish level note, my vet brought in a mason jar filled wiht "rocks" and told me he had pulled the stones out of a 40lb dog. i sh*t you not, they were 4 inches in diameter and they were heavy as, well, rocks. i was like...no. then he showed me the xray. he was showing me an extreme case to illustrate and explain what can happen...but i was like, holy mother of god, how does someone not know that's happening wiht their animal!??!?
Eek! I hope the antibiotics do the trick. Bladder stones dont sound like something fun to deal with.
