We are having a party for our 1-year-old daughter. It is going to start at about 4:30 and go to about 7:30...we are going to say in the invitation something to the effect of 'come for as little or as long as you can' so it is more of an open house type party. We are having a vintage shabby chic picnic-ish theme in our backyard. My question is in regards to food. I was originally thinking pre-made croissant sandwiches (from Costco), salads and some warm sides (in crockpots). Are sandwiches a no-no for dinner events? I'm thinking they are not a good idea, but since it is in our backyard and we will have picnic blankets to eat on it might be ok?!? What is your opinion? Help please!
Re: Food for an evening party
Normally, I'd probably say no for an evening event, but in this case I think it's ok.
Not only does it go well with the theme, but it's the perfect type of food for people coming and going. Plus you'll be serving plenty of sides so it's not like you're just serving sandwiches.
When I think of "an evening party" I don't think of picnic or sandwiches but you just meant the time. Really, you're talking talking late afternoon into early evening so I think sandwiches totally goes with your theme and would be a perfectly wonderful dinner for your guests.
Also, I love the theme idea you have--post pics when you have them!
Good luck and have fun!
