I feel like I am getting ripped off by Comcast. My bill is $105/month. We have basic cable and wireless internet. We have cable on 5 TVs, but only have the fancy remote/box for one (I think we were only supposed to pay install for additional tvs as long as they don?t have a special box/remote). A co-worker said she had basic cable one TV and wireless internet with them and it only costs her $65/month.
Is $105 to much for what I have? Also, is there another ?cable? provider that is not Comcast in the north suburbs area? I do not want a dish.
Re: Cable costs?
We pay $150/month for Comcast cable and internet. That includes modem rental.
We have the package that includes ESPN, but no HBO-level programming. We have HD and one DVR box.
If you don't want a dish, you are kind of stuck as far as who your cable provider is.
A Little Bird and a Monkey Butt
We have Direct TV and pay around $90/month for one tv of cable (NFL channel and two channel DVR included) and the internet.
I love Direct TV, it is a strong storm that gives the reception trouble, and those are no more than 2 a season. Comcast was making us angry so we switched.
If you do decide to switch, PM me. If you refer someone (or accept someone's referral), both of you get $100 credit toward your account. You just need their account info when you sign.
We pay $159 for phone, internet and cable with 2 HD DVR boxes and Starz. We called in October to request a price reduction. We were paying $210 before that. It never hurts to call and see if they will reduce the price. We aren't always haapy with Comcast, but my mom and my dad had satellite and personally did not like it.
my read shelf:
We pay $95 (after taxes) and have the higher speed internet as well as cable. Our cable includes the full cable (all the NatGeo, MTV2,3,4, etc), HD and DVR and HBO along with all the HD On-Demand, etc.
That retails at about $189 I was told last time they tried to raise it. Threaten to cancel them (and mean it), and they'll work with you. We've have this 6-month special for going on 2 years. Once we ditched the HBO for 6 months, but they added it back to our package last time.
Eat.Drink.BeMarried. Blog.
We pay about $135 for cable, internet, and home phone, and with one grouping of additional channels package...I think we get encore as part of that package.
Unfortunately I wanted the high internet speeds for my real estate stuff and that's Comcast.
We had DirectTv for 5 years and absolutely LOVED them, but I HATE, HATE, HATE qwest so they weren't an option and I only wanted one bill. I figure at some point I'll be pissed off enough with Comcast that we'll go back to DirectTv.
We live in the Northern suburbs and pay a little over $50/month for basic cable and internet through Comcast.
I'm a little confused why you're paying so much though. Do you have basic cable or standard cable? We have basic cable which means only the major network channels and a couple local channels which we get on 4 tvs in the house. We don't have any boxes or special remotes (we did when we had standard cable).
I would do this. When we had DirecTv I would call every 6 months or so and explain that our bill was too high and ask if there was anything they could do to lower it. They usually always gave me a $5-10 credit/month that would last 3-6 months. I also would occasionally call and ask for 3 months of free Showtime (usually when the new season of Dexter was starting) and they would also give me that.
In September though we cancelled our DirecTv completely. Now we just use netflix watch instantly and go without any type of tv programming.
