Hey all! This is my first post on here I've been over at TK until ~Jan. 1st when I got married. I haven't been as involved in the Nest because I've been so busy with work and married life and I'm taking an online biology class at University of Florida for work.... BUT.... I have a local question about photography stuff.
My friend at work and I both have dSLR cameras that we don't really know how to use. I took some B&W photo classes in college but that was at least 5 years ago an with a film SLR. We're looking to take some photography classes or workshops together that would brush up our skills. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've looked at workshops provided by the city I live in (Tempe) and some photo shops around town (Photomark being one of them). I would like to see if anyone had other suggestions.
Thanks!
Re: Hi and Photography question
I took a workshop not too long ago that was by Val Westover Photography, and it was REALLY helpful. It was with Val Westover and Stefanie Adriana. They are both award winning photographers... amazingly talented.
I've been a hobby photographer for a long time, and they still taught me a few things, and made a lot of things easier for me with how they were explained and the visuals that they had.
Very approachable for questions and they did a photo safari thing after the class that went 3 hours over the time scheduled for it, because they stayed until everyone was comfortable with everything on their camera, and helped anyone that approached them with questions.
It doesn't look like they will be back in Phx until Oct. or so though. =(
The workshop also is kind of spendy... but we went with a Groupon deal, so I would watch out for those in the future. You can also volunteer to help and go free, but you might miss a bit of it here and there doing whatever work they need you to.

Another good resource that I've found is http://creativelive.com/
They do streaming classes that are free online, or you can buy them for download. I did one specifically for my camera last week, and it was very in depth and easy to understand. I watched it live, and then ended up buying it anyway, because I felt it was well worth it to be able to re-watch it, and it was $20 cheaper if you buy it during the broadcast.
Hope that helps!
I'm not sure of any photography classes around town.
However, I did want to add that there is a Photography board over on the bump. I have learned a LOT over there over the past 2 (ish) months that I have been on there. LOTS of really helpful and talented girls who have shared a lot of lessons, tips, advice, etc. Anyway, I just thought I'd throw it out there since you seem interested in learning more about photography.
