Magazine touch ups

My Graphic Designer friend sent me this link to check out the before and after photographs of a studio that specializes in touching up photos for stars in magazines. Click on the portfolio and then the image. When your cursor is on the picture it's the before, scroll off and it's after. They are all drastic with changing how the people look. Site.

Very interesting. It's amazing how much character is lost in the touch-up, too; everything that makes a person's face interesting is smoothed away! Thanks for the link.

Some of the lighting and making the pictures look more crisp seems fine to me. The fact they have to fatten up some of the models is gross, like Cameron Diaz's arm or one of them where they added a bit to her back to make it seem curvier. I hate that they took away some normal curves on the women. I think the pictures look fine without it.

I can see where the editing for lighting and clarity is needed, but some of their faces are so different after, especially that last one.

Wow, no wonder so many people have unatainable fitness goals when they model them after celebs, even they don't actually have those bodies!

ANDPLUSALSO! can I mention how much I hate that they remove muscle tone/definition from most of the women??  Seriously.

wow, those "touch ups" are so extreme in some of them! they change the whole look of the person!
