Help with my Kindle

Hi -

Got one last night as a gift and I was very surprised and don't know much about them.   It's charging now and I will register it and read through the instructions after dinner but thought I'd post here to see if anyone has tips.

Some of these may be stupid questions so I apologize...

Do you have to get the downloads through amazon?

Any tips for free books?

Are there sites where you can share or swap dowloads?

Any other info would be great.   I'm sure once I read through the manual I'll feel more comfortable, but thought I'd ask you ladies!

Thanks :)

Re: Help with my Kindle

  • Do you have to get the downloads through amazon? No, you can copy books over manually by connecting the Kindle to your PC and browsing it (like you would browse any other USB drive).

Any tips for free books? Are there sites where you can share or swap downloads? Read this thread on The Nest Book Club -- http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/49280395.aspx

One of the poster's posted a TON of websites for books and book recommendations.  So far I've gotten all of my free books off of Amazon or the library.

  • Great! Thank you :)

  • Gutenberg.org is my favorite. They have a lot of books in TXT format just suitable for your kindle.

Of late, I am exhausted reading free ebooks and am planning to sign up a paid membership at some trusted ebook source.

Recently, I came across the Reading Site Reviews and it seems to be a convincing offer!

Do you know of any other paid membership source for kindle ebooks?
