Re: places to hike?
We just went to Purisma Creek in Half Moon Bay over the weekend.
Also - Sanborne and Castle Rock in Saratoga are great.

My sister and I are HUGE hikers (day hikes, usually anywhere from 4 - 6 miles).
These are our favorites:
Lafayette Resevoir (the upper ridge trail): http://www.bahiker.com/eastbayhikes/lafres.html
Steep Ravine Trail (Mt Tam down to Stinson Beach): http://www.bahiker.com/northbayhikes/stinson.html
Mt Diablo: http://www.bahiker.com/eastbayhikes/mdsp/diablo.html
Las Trampas - there are a ton of different trails off of here: http://www.ebparks.org/parks/las_trampas
FYI - www.bahiker.com is really a GREAT website for local hikes. You can search by area, distance, etc.
Moosie, check out the state parks in the Santa Cruz area. I hiked at a bunch when I was going to school there and they're beautiful.
In the East Bay, some of my favorites are Tilden Regional Park, Briones Regional Park, Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve and Mt. Diablo.
We've also ventured out to the Golden Gate National Recreational Area and had a good time.

We usually hike in Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve, up on the hill between the ocean and the bay. We love to go there in spring to see the wildflowers. We also like to hike on mount Tamalpais.
http://www.bahiker.com/ has an index of all/most hiking trails in the bay area.
