I am a quitter (with poll!)

So.... I quit the dr. She doesn't know it yet. I had an appointment on Thursday which I cancelled. i didn't think it was that expensive till I added it up... 70 dollars a week just to see her and get my protein shake thingy. Then I have to get my vitamins, food etc. It was outrageous. AND I can't even eat chocolate! So now I'm trying to figure out what to do!

Do you like jewelry? Buy 2 get 4 half off, your half off items are your most expensive items

  • Here's the question... do you still plan on sticking to a healthy lifestyle even though you quite the doctor? I have full faith in you that you can do this without the doctor! What's your plan from here?

  • well I dunno yet. I could still have to get the powder stuff, which I can online, but I dunno. I was thinkin of doing nutrisystems, or weight watchers-- because you eat REAL food and not chicken 24/7. OR I was going to ask my good friend Lindsay to help me.

  • Blech - ditch the powder stuff, it's crap. Personally, I don't have anything good to say about NutriSystem. I mean, what GOOD can you say about food that sits on a shelf and doesn't have to be refrigerated? Imagine what that does inside you... yikes!

Weight Watchers has an amazing system in place - I love that the promote teaching people HOW to eat, unlike NutriSystem.

Have I mentioned SparkPeople.com to you before? I love it - so great for tracking.

And I'm sure your friend Lindsay would help you :)

  • The new WW is pretty good, and if you can spend some time with it, you might find it works for you.  I hope so!

I think you have to find the system that works for you, not only in terms of what you can eat, but how you balance the limitations that a diet naturally will present to you, and the will power and discipline you need to make good choices every time you eat.  I bet for some people, having the doctors appointment provides enormous accountability, and that (even more than the shakes themselves) provides great structure.

Being serious about weight loss, and doing it on your own with WW or something means you have to have the right support system inside your own head and in the rest of your life.  It's very easy to say "well, it was a special day" or "someone brought xx treat in the office today and it looked so good I had to try a piece" or "I don't ever get to see so and so, so Friday night, when we go out, I can splurge".  It was really hard for me to create a kind of "zero tolerance" policy on all those justifications where food choices were seen as rewards or special exceptions to good choices.  I am lucky that I did well with that part of it, but that's because I had a ZERO policy, not a "Well, one bite won't destroy me" policy.  I knew that I could say NO to something.  But if I said YES to ONE bite, I'd eat 10 more.  I just had to accept that I was weak when it came to that, and I just couldn't allow it.

We're all on your side and want you to be successful... just let us know how we can help and we're there for you!

  • I think WW would be great.  I like Kathy's idea of a zero tolerance policy.  Best of luck.  Remember we're here for support anytime you need it.
