Laptop: Do you put it in Sleep, Hibernate, or Shut down every time?

DH and I are having a discussion on this and not sure who is right!

For laptops, do you place it in Sleep, Hibernate, or do you Shut down every time you're done using it?

Re: Laptop: Do you put it in Sleep, Hibernate, or Shut down every time?

  • I don't do anything "every time I'm done using it."

It's set to automatically go to sleep if it isn't used for two hours.  I shut down/restart about once a week.

I'm not sure there's really a right and wrong answer to this question...

  • mine is set to hibernate after a couple hours of being inactive.  i restart it only when needed and only shut it down completely when we're not going to be home for an extended length of time.

  • I have a MacBook Pro laptop and it starts and powers off insanely fast compared to previous PC's I've had. I always turn it off when I'm done for the day.

  • I shut the lid (which I think puts it into Sleep mode)

  • I have it set to hibernate upon closing the lid which conserves the most battery power.
