Tell me about Murfreesboro!

Anyone live in/near/visited Murfreesboro?  My DH is going on an interview in Tullahoma so it looks like we would live in south Murf. (moving from New Orleans).  Is it safe?  Good schools?  Things to do (restaurants, shopping, etc)?  Fab areas to live/ or avoid?  Is the COL pretty low?  I've never lived outside NOLA, so I'm trying to prepare myself for a major culture shock.  Any info is appreciated!! Thanks!

Re: Tell me about Murfreesboro!

  • I live in Lebanon and it's about 20 minutes away from Murfreesboro. There's a lot to do and it's big. I like it there, it's sometimes really crowded. Their mall is the Stones River Mall that was just recently remodeled and added a lot of new stores! It's has so many stores and different restaurants there. You can literally eat at a different kind of restaurant every night. I don't know about the schools but I've never heard anything bad. College wise, there's MTSU (Middle TN State Univ.) it's a good school. It's definitely big.
  • "the boro" as some people from middle TN call it (lol) is a pretty large city, and like PP said, there is alot of eating and shopping. the avenue is a newer mall and i really like it.  i know there are 4 high schools there also

  • Thanks!!  Food and shopping is really all I need to make me happy in life- lol.
  • I've lived in the boro all my life and love it! It's small enough to not feel like a big city, but it has all the shopping and food of the big city. Also, we are so close to Nashville, you can go anytime! It's a safe place and we have good schools. You should come visit sometime!

  • We moved to Murfreesboro from NOLA too!  Big change.  I really like it in Murfreesboro, but my husband misses New Orleans dearly.  It is a very different lifestyle with a lot less going on all the time.  But it is a great place to raise kids and we have a 2 year old so that is very important to us.  It is also a very safe place.  Welcome to Murfreesboro!
