Re: Seriously?!?

  • I'm just grateful only one of my Bama fan friends is of the opinion that "It's just trees.  Replant them."   I just hope everyone else takes the high road.

  • I literally cried when Auburn posted the article on facebook. I'm sad for future generations of the Auburn family that won't get to experience standing underneath those awesome trees when they are rolled in TP after a victory, like I have. I can't even picture the corner of Magnolia and College without them.

I know you can't judge all Bama fans by this guy's actions, but I'm to the point where I would rather see the rivalry end, because it just went one step way too far. I mean really, what's next? I'm pretty heartbroken, and by the way my facebook blew up today, I think a lot of other Auburn fans are also.

You know what? I totally agree. DH and I were talking about this last night. I really, really wish all of the athletic competitions between Auburn and Alabama would just stop. It is just waaaaaaaaaay too ridiculous. I thought that before this whole thing with the trees happened and that only reinforced it for me. Sure, it is fun to beat Bama (especially in Tuscaloosa) but it isn't worth this. The hatred is just too much.

I don't want any part of it.

That is one of the biggest reasons I can't stop crying when I think about it. DH & I met at auburn, in the marching band, it's everything to us. Our wedding was in the AU chapel & our reception at the AU hotel.  I am just devastated that our son may not get to experience Toomers like we did. It's just heartbreaking. We are taking him this weekend to try and get some pictures with our trees and tell him stories, hes young but its important.

There was a bama fan who once shot his own son over the rivalry. Obviously not every Auburn fan is the pillar of class & decency (or legality for that matter) but the trashy, redneck classlessness seems to run rampant throughout those fans.

  • That was all sorts of f*cked upness.  Did you hear the radio recording?  There are programs that DH and I despise, but let's try to keep the illegal shenanigans out of it.  Because if they catch this guy - or when - he'll probably get nailed with vandalism.
I swim because I'm too damned sexy for a sport that requires real clothing.
  • Thankfully an arrest has been made.

  • This seriously makes my heart sad and I was shocked when I heard about it yesterday.

What's even worse is that they may not be able to put any more trees in that spot for 3-5 years because that's how long that stuff can stay in the soil. Those trees are part of why I love Auburn so much and it makes me so sad because they have been through so much with drunk drivers and fires that their demise came down to some moron who was bitter after a freakin' football loss.

    War Damn Treegle!

  • I'm not even an Auburn fan, but I read that article and I can't explain that devistating feeling I got. This is so sad and sick and wrong. If there were something like that at OSU and someone did this to it, I would be completely heartbroken.

    This made me sad.

  • I can tell ya right now, if we had something like that on our campus and an OU fan destroyed it, all hell would break loose in this state. It would be UGLY.

I can't believe someone would do that. Completely classless. I'm really far removed from Auburn [my SIL went to school there, but that's about it], but I know how important those trees are to the atmosphere. For them to be destroyed takes the rivalry to a whole new level that, if not checked, could get worse. Ridiculous.

  • Can I just say that on behalf of ALL of the Alabama fans I have touched base with about this, we are horrified that this happened. I have encountered no one who would support such a catastrophic thing to happen. Toomer's Corner is a cherished tradition for all ages of Auburn fans and we respect this as such. Many of the state's websites have been swarmed by Bama fans sympathetic to this loss and we're saddened that a sick individual would do such a thing.

I really hope that the rest of us Alabama fans aren't grouped in with this mentally unstable individual.

Way to take the high road.

This whole thing is sickening.  I'm sorry to hear about the trees, not only because they're huge symbols to that campus and school, but also because they're 130+ years old.  You can't just go out and replace something like that.  It's all so terrible.

  • I'm originally from Alabama and am a serious Roll Tide fan, but this is truly sick and it's taking a football rivalry way, way, way too far.  That guy needs mental help - normal people just don't act that way.

Although, I don't feel like you took the high road here, I'd like to show you exactly who IS:
