Recycle bins?

If you're not provided with one, what do you use for recycle bin(s)?  I think I'm ready to start recycling (!) but I'll have to transport everything to the recycling center. TIA

Re: Recycle bins?

  • You could use 5 gallon buckets or maybe some super sturdy large storage containers (with lids if you have to transport).

  • I just use a plastic bag.  We have single-stream recycling.  Before that I just had separate plastic bags that hung in the closet in the kitchen.
  • We are lucky enough to have lots of space in our garage so we use the cheap 18 gallon totes. The recycle bins are only near our house every first and third weekend of the month and usually we are gone for one of those weekends it seems like, so we needed something bigger. I also have a tote in our pantry that I throw everything in and when that is full (or when I feel like emptying it) I take it to the garage.
  • We use biodegradable bags for both recycling and trash.
  • Those using plastic bags - can you just throw it into the bin in the plastic bag?

We have curb side pickup every week but nothing can be in plastic bags.

  • Jumbo garbage bins, but trying to cut down on non-reusable items.

  • We use these from IKEA.  They stack and have lids, so it keeps things somewhat neat.  They have different sizes too, so if you're like us and living in a tiny apartment, there's still something you can use.  They also fit great in the trunk of your car, in case you have to drive to the nearest recycling bin.

  • I LOVE the last idea! Too bad there's no Ikea in MT...and these aren't available online.  Now I have something to look for though!

    Thanks everyone for the ideas

  • I just have multiple garbage bins lined up in the garage, each separate for types of plastic, paper, cans, glass, etc.
