Any one here ever take Clomid?

I meet with my OB today to discuss why I am having issues getting pregnant.  We had a long discussion about what my issue(s) might be and he concludes that I have PCOS and trouble ovulating.  While I do ovulate, it's much later in my cycle (like CD 27) and he thinks this could be a sign for poor quality eggs and maybe has something to do with my chemical pregnancy.  He suggested I give Clomid a shot to help me ovulate sooner and up the quality of eggs I produce.  He does want me to take next cycle off, to give my body 3 cycles to rest from my chemical pregnancy in December.  So I won't be starting any medicated cycles until April at the earliest.  I am a little nervous about the possibility of multiples/side effects so it's something I really need to think over.

I was just curious to see if anyone else had any experience with Clomid?  What sort of side effects did you experience?   Anyone have multiples from Clomid?  TIA!

Re: Any one here ever take Clomid?

  • I haven't taken it but wanted to let you know I've been thinking about you today wondering when the OB appointment was/is and praying that it goes well. Guess you have some answers but still lots to think about.

I'm not too sure about PCOS but is that really something they can diagnose without testing? (I'm just curious)

Also, just remember if it meant for you to have multiples it will happen on or off Clomid, but go with your heart and talk to your H about it too.

Glad you got a staring point and I'm praying for you as you head into this decision.

  • I don't have personal experience with Clomid but I know two of my friends that took it and one of them has twins:)  You could join the WCF twinsies club!!
  • Of the women I know who've been on it, I know they often experienced lots of mood swings and felt down a lot while on it :( Sorry, I know that's not very uplifting news, lol.
  • My friend's blog will answer a lot of your questions. When I get home later today, I'll send you a link to her blog. She's been on a long & tough TTC journey. I've learned tons about IF from her. If I forget, remind me.

  • I have not taken Clomid but from what I have researched about it Clomid has the lowest chance of multiples compared to other fertility interventions. Of course that doesn't mean that you will not have multiples, but it has the least chance of it happening. I know women who have taken Clomid and had twins, but I also know women that took it and had singletons. So I guess it means you should be prepared that multiples can happen but it isn't a guarantee that it will happen.

GL and i'm sorry to hear about PCOS :(

  • When we were trying for baby #1 I was prescribed Clomid.  My Dr. said it only increased the chances of multiples by 5%.  I never ended up taking it b/c I was already pregnant and didn't know it.
  • Thanks for all the replies!  I guess I have all next cycle to continue weighing the pros and cons of Clomid before I need to make my decision.

    :)

  • Kathy - All the ladies on the multiples board are pretty nice.  It might be worth asking over there.  There are many moms with multiples that have experience with fertility issues.

I thought about asking over there, but I am scared of the bump boards.....too many whackos!  Glad to hear they are not bishes.  I may ask for some feedback!

  • I thought the chances of multiples with clomid was 1/10? Ragazza says 5% so that would be 1/20. Both are still a little high so I would really consider it. I was doing a different treatment and my chances were 1/4. Having two babies is sometimes hard, but I don't know if I could be pregnant twice! :)
  • Hey. Clomid only very slightly increases your chance for twins.  I forget exactly but it's no more than a 7% increase.  And the increase in more than twins is very very slight.  I could proabably answer your questions, but I'd prefer not to post it all on here.  If you want to message me on FB I would be happy to try to help.
