Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a proud Penn State alumni. Penn State made a huge difference in my life and my family. However, it isn't just the education, football team, and extracurricular activities that were available year-round, that filled my heart with pride.
Every year, Penn State holds the Penn State Dance Marathon. Students sign up to participate in a 48-hour dance marathon where they are not allowed to sit or sleep. They dance the days away in hopes to raise money for the Four Diamonds Foundation, which donates money to find a cure for pediatric cancer. Penn State has over 30 campuses and each campus sends dancers to be their representatives, while people come to the stadium to cheer them on. This year, they had to shut the doors to a three-story stadium seating that holds 15,000 people, due to fire hazards. That's how many people show up each year to help raise money.
The marathon (also known as THON) just ended today and they released the amount of money that was raised by Penn State to go to the Four Diamonds Foundation:
$9,563,016,09!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is amazing! Since 2003, (when I first started school), this number has grown by 6 million dollars!
If you get a chance, check out their website www.thon.org and take the time to figure out what this organization is all about and possibly donate! I could not be more proud to be a Penn State alum right now!
