itunes with ipad, iphone and ipod

Is there a way for me to sync each of these that only certain songs or files appear on certain hardware? I'm starting with clean itunes as my other laptop died, so, I have yet to load all my music and just got an ipad.  I don't want all my music on my ipad.  I'd like some of it, but not all of it.  I just don't know how to distinguish between all three devices when syncing and I don't want to go through and select each song each time.

When you've plugged in your device look at the top of iTunes and you can go to "Music" at the top. Then, only click the songs you want to "sync" with your iTunes collection accordingly to your device of choice. 

Or, you could create 3 different iTunes accounts and make their names something so that you know instantly that they are for a specific device.

I think with the device plugged in, click on the device's name.  On the big screen, there are tabs, "Summary", "Music", "Movies", etc.  Under Music, select the "Selected playlists,artists, albums, and genres", and click "Sync" at the bottom.  It works for my iPod, I don't see why it wouldn't work for the iPad.

Just create a playlist for each device and your songs to each one at will. The sync settings are device-specific, so when you sync, only sync each device's playlist.
