this is pretty much just a vent and to get opinions on whether or not i should be annoyed. presently looking for a job on-line....my mom sends me tons of jobs she comes across via email....pretty much anything that has "HR" (or anything related) in the title. She has more internet searching time, so she just sends them all to me...
Cool right? you would think, but between that and spam mail my email inbox is always crammed....i'll get it down to 5 or 10 emails in my inbox...phew
then bamm!!! the next morning i have 55 or something ridiculous (i got it down to 4 emails on friday...this morning i had 88
) On top of that it slows the email system down...
Mind you, these are not all from mom, but it takes up a lot of my time sorting thru and organizing, that by the time I get to applying- i'm burnt out (and a little frustrated).
I appreciate all the help, really i do, but one day i'd like to sit down with a fresh in box.... I know i could just delete/delete/delete, but i'm afraid i'll miss something important from a prospective employer. I would just start a new email address, but that just seems to cause more confusion. OK - Vent over!
FYI - I apologize if this sounds petty, especially to all you ladies at work who have to deal with the same issue with catching up on work emails...been there, done that too. Ugh!
Re: annoying - or should i be grateful?
I would be annoyed too. Especially if she has the time, but isn't taking the time to see if the listings actually make sense for you before sending them. My mom does stuff like that - she thinks she's helping, but in the end just makes more work for me.
Could you maybe give her some more specs, like "I really appreciate you sending all those job postings, but I am really only looking for something that has/says XYZ... If you could just send those it would be even better." Or something like that?

Baby Sister is coming soon!
When I was looking for a job I set up a separate email account that was just for job looking/applying. That way when I wanted to work on it I could just go to that account. If you did that and gave her a new address do you think she'd use the right one?
Other than that I think I'd just say be grateful. You aren't deleting the emails so it looks like you're actually using (at least looking through) what she is sending you. It may be just the job search that's overwhelming you and this adds to that - believe me I've been there!! Looking for a job is one of the top worst things in life to me.
Good luck!
i have a pretty open relationship with my mom so i'd just tell her, i'm all set up with search engines that send me hr jobs - i appreciate your help but all these jobs you are sending is too much.
I like the seperate email idea. That way she feels like she is helping you and you can go through them at your leisure.
My dad sends at least 15 stupid joke/chain/politcal emails a day. I am not interested in any of them. So about 2 years ago I told him that if he ever would send me a real email I wouldnt know b/c I delete about 99% of his emails without even opening them. I think he was mad with me but I dont get those stupid emails from him anymore. I also dont get any meaningful communication from him either so be careful what you wish for LOL.
thank you...all are great points and advice. I've mentioned it to her, but I still get them daily, and then the question..."did you get the job i sent you for ..... etc etc". Ugh, I dunno, probably, i've gotten so many!! The alternative email address would work, but i've already sent out so many applications on the current email. that may be my next resort...
going forward, i'm just going to save all her emails to a folder and get to them when i can.......if they are a few days old they become obsolete anyway.
Plus, after doing my own job searches, I end up coming accross the same jobs anyway...and double applying is annoying...it's hard to remember them all, so I rely on my running list.
all in all, i'm grateful for the help from her, just shows she cares.
PS - yes, i had to nip the silly forwards in the bud a long time ago....really?!? they are fun if you have the time, but not so much right now.
