...the meal that you eat in the evening?

I generally say dinner, but my mom always called it supper, and a friend of mine just invited me over for "supper" and I realized I hadn't heard that word in a long time.

I usually say dinner too, but I've definitely heard both.  Come to think of it, my mom might say supper too...

I say dinner, my grandmother always said supper...it might be a generational thing as well as a regional thing too.

I say dinner and sometimes supper.  I asked my niece what she wanted for supper one night and she had no idea what I was talking about because apparently it is always dinner at their house.
