How many vacation days to you get?

So I was thinking about the number of vacation days I got with my previous company, vs. my current company.

How many vacation days (and/or sick days) do you get?  Also, add in if you get floating holidays...

  • I get 22 days of PTO, with no additional sick days, and no floating holidays.

    DH gets ~15 days PTO, with unlimited sick days and one floating holiday.

  • We "earn" our vacation time, but for me, it works out to 4 weeks vacation (so 20 days) per year, plus 3 additional personal days. We also earn 1 sick day per month.  Everything but the personal days carry over from year-to-year, (with a ridiculous maximum that almost no one ever meets), but we get 3 new personal days each calendar year.

    My husband gets 3 weeks vacation and I think it's 10 sick days per year. His vacation days don't carry over, though, so he has to use the days or lose them.  His sick time does carry over, though.

  • I get 10 un-paid personal days and vacation days are accrued bi-weekly, on average I accrue 1 day per month. Unused vacation days rollover but personal days do not.

    My company has 10 paid holidays.  Then, I've been with this company less than 3 years, so I have 10 days PTO.  I will get 15 at 5 years.  No sick/personal/floating.  If we need a sick/personal day it's either taken from vaca or unpaid.

  • I get 3 weeks (15 days) PTO, 1.5 sicks days per month, 5 family days (ie: sick kids, etc), 1 personal day and one "volunteer" day (a day off to volunteer). After 8 years we get 4 weeks.

  • I get 21 days per year (plus 8-10 holidays)...the 21 days incorporates sick, vacation, etc all rolled into PTO.

  • I've been with my company 2 yrs, so for now every year I get: 8 paid holidays & 2 floating holidays, 10 days vacation and 7 sick days.

    DH gets: 8 paid holidays, and 12 PTO (which includes sick days).

    However, my company also offers a "Summer Hours" program which I always take part in.  We still work the same amount of hours in a 2-week pay period (75 hrs), but the time worked is divided differently so that every other Friday we get off.  So essentially, I get 6 3-day wknds in summer (not including holidays, so actually 9 w/Memorial, 4th, and Labor)

    Yeah, I know.  It was hard for me to swallow at first too, but when you take into consideration that we get a hefty Christmas bonus, you don't see me complaining!

  • I get 22 vacation days, 4 personal days, 10 paid holidays (11 every other year when we have Election Day off) and 15 sick days per year.

    You can accrue sick days almost endlessly; I have like 40 accrued. We also can carry 15 vacation days/year, which I do every year so I have a potential of taking eight weeks off each year. Even with the wedding, though, I still carried 15 days into this year.

  • I teach high school, so obviously I get the summer off, but aside from that we get 3 personal days (these turn into sick days if unused) and 15 sick days per year which accumulate.  We also get days for breavement that don't come out of either of those and paid professional leave days.

  • I get 15 vacation days, 5 personal days, unlimited sick days and 10 paid holidays. We also do a summer program like Hannah, except we work 30 min extra each day and then have half days on Fridays.

  • I teach as well so I wasn't even going to pipe in since I'm so used to hearing endlessly how much vacation I get...which I don't find to be that much in comparison to my DH and state workers...

    I get summers obviously, and 10 sick days per year which do add up, 3 personal days out of which 2 can be transferred to the next year.  Bereavement/jury duty does not come out of our days and we get one professional development day per year, we can also take one unpaid day without having to pay any extra (after that I think we have to pay the sub rate and our insurance contribution for that day, but I don't intend to use those other than possibly for maternity which is of course treated differently...at this point I have 1 personal day (thanks to the honeymoon)

    DH works for the Commonwealth  and earns days off at a really high rate, I never remember exactly how much.  He's worked for the state for 7 years and has over 800 hours of sick time accrued if I'm not mistaken and he's used quite a bit of that from surgeries and just generally being sick...he also gets personal, and annual or vacation and all federal holidays (and if he was in the right office building would get off other times based on the governor's appearances) 

    Both of us may use sick time to care for each other, but he is limited to something like 10 days per year...mine just comes out of my normal sick time so I am only limited by the number of days off I have...

  • I get 4 weeks of vacation (20 days), 2 personal days, and 39.94 hours of sick time. The sick time accrues up to 590 hours, but the vacation and personal days do not.  We also get 7 holidays a year: New Years Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. 

    I've been with this company  for 7 years.  I think I started with 2 weeks of vacation.  3 more years until I get 5 weeks.  Is it sad that I am really looking forward to that mile marker?

  • I am also a teacher so I get summers off as well as two weeks at Christmas and a week off for spring break.  We also get 3 personal days of which 2 can be rolled over to the next year.  We also get 15 sick days and an unlimited number of professional development days, but they must be approved before going.

  • I am a teacher so I get all holidays and summers off along with a week in February, April, and Christmas vacation.  Along with that, I get 2 personal days and 12 sick days but it all gets lumped together so basically 14 days a year.  We can carry over 5 unused each year so I have actually accrued 32 additional days over the years.   Worked great this year for the wedding

  • I work for the city and we accrue vacation and sick time, so I get about 7 hours of vacation so about 2 weeks of vacation per year and it will go up after 5 years. We earn 8 hours of sick time per month. All of the above time carries over as long as you are employed with the city.

    We have 12 paid holiday and get 2 floating holidays on July 1st. Today is actually our first holiday off since July, we have been working all the holidays which is a bonus because we would earn 12 hours of Comp time for working holidays.

    Comp time is basically OT, you can take your OT as time or money and I always take it as time, that is how I went on vacay so soon after the wedding, I earned about 72 hours in November, December and beginning of January. We can only carry over 40 hours of comp time, and the rest is paid out.

    We also get bereavement days for immediate family that do not come out of our vacation/comp time.

    They are pretty strict with our sick time and we have to have a Dr's note or it is considered  "an instance" and you only get 6 "instances" per year and if you go over that it is considered sick time abuse. 

    DH gets 1 week of vacation and he has been there for 7 years, it also doesn't always get paid to him for the week he takes it. He will probably get paid for last week in August when they "have money."

    It just adds up and after something like 650 hours are saved up, it starts spilling over into your long term disability.

  • well...here's what sucks....i get 1/2 day of personal time per month and some paid holidays....and normally I'd get 2 weeks vacation...

    I've worked there as what they consider part time since march....6 weeks ago i started full time, and had to "restart" my "probationary period" so i wont start to accrue my half days till march....and...because i wasnt full time at the beginning of 2011 I I wont get the two weeks vacation.....

    if i were in my desired profession I'd be a guidance counselor and have this week off, april break off, christmas off, summer off....ughhhhhhh *hate*

    pray i scored that interview.....i cant stand the "benefits" at this place :(

    Yeah, it's like the one perk we have.  lol  We haven't had a raise in four years, but we can take off pretty much anytime we want.  So it all evens out.  lol

  • I have been with the same company 12 years... I have stored up most of the time I have available to me.

    At this time, I have the max of 192 hrs of sick time available (24 days). I plan on using that when we have a kid. I am never sick and it will sit there until I use it.

    I get three weeks (15 days) of paid vacation. Vacation does not accrue year-to-year. Every year, I get 16 hours (2 days) of personal time. Since my sick time is at its max, I get a portion of what I would have gotten in sick time as personal time... it averages an 1-1.5 hours every two weeks. Personal time rolls over year-to-year. I also get 6 paid holidays (though not time off).

    So... I am guaranteed to get paid an additional 21 days every year.

    In the event that I need it, I get 3 days bereavement per immediate relative. Also, should I have Jury Duty, I get those days paid (if I am scheduled) and I get to keep the money the court gives me (last I knew, it was only ten bucks... just enough for lunch).

  • We get 10 days vacation time and 4 days sick time.  Nothing is carried over.  Anything left over is paid out in the first paycheck of the following year.

    We can gain 1 full vacation day a quarter by working a half day on a Saturday for our quarterly billing.

    Paid Holidays; MLK, Pres Day, Good Friday, Memorial, 4th of July, Labor day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

    Not too bad.
